@Becca True! Thank you so much Becca 🙏
Have you asked for an elective c section as your preferred method of delivery or is it for medical reasons? If it's a planned section, I wouldn't have thought the obstetrician will examine you to see if you are dilated, unless you have specifically said you are opting for a natural birth and a section if baby doesn't arrive by X date as a last resort? I am booked for an elective, all that's been requested is bloods a few days before and usual midwife appointment (38) where she will measure and check the baby's position. From what I understand, c section delivery can be more difficult if you have already gone into active labour and the baby has started to make their way down the birth canal.. but obv you would know about that well in advance of your section.
@Jess I don’t want an induction if baby doesn’t come on his own so it’s booked instead of an induction at 41 weeks. The doctor knows it’s my wish to go into labour naturally but I want the planned as the planned B.
There's not much point checking your cervix because it only tells you what it doing in that exact moment, you can stay slightly dilated for weeks at a time, or dilate all the way within hours, so it's not really going to tell you much about when the baby will come.
@Charley and baby’s position? Or would I be more dilated anyways if he was 2/5 for instance?
@Zeynep again they can pop in and out of being engaged right up until they're born, or can not engage until right before hand.
@Charley makes sense! Thank you Charley ☺️
@Zeynep no probs. I also have decided against induction with a back up c section booked. Basically if you get there on the day of surgery and you're not in labour already, then the operation goes ahead as you've declined induction, so even if baby was sitting right down low and your cervix was a couple of cm dilated, if you have decided against induction, there's not a lot they can do to bring baby out, and they don't know how long it will be until they come on their own!
@Charley Got it! I feel like the clock is ticking 😂 Just did a 7 km walk. When is your section booked?
@Zeynep currently sitting in the waiting room to see the consultant and get my date 🤣 I'm 38 weeks today
@Charley good luck! Mine is booked for my 40+6!
@Zeynep ah I see understood! :)
@Zeynep I have my elective tomorrow and it’s also booked at 40+6. I also didn’t want an induction if he was to become overdue. I found out this week that he’s in an unstable lie position which basically means he’s been bobbing around from engaged to diagonal and unengaged so I didn’t think he had any plans to come out on his own! Good luck!
@Shireen good luck! I hope it goes smoothly and you recover well 🙏🙏🙏

@Zeynep thank you! You too!🙏
Remember that emergency c-sections are generally performed during labour when babies are fully engaged! I was 4cm and baby’s head couldn’t get any lower during my c section and they didn’t have any issues. I know women who had c sections at 10cm after trying to push so baby was literally crowning and they had no complications. You will have pre-op before your elective where they will fully examine you and baby and do observations. Don’t stress about it
