Postpartum

I haven’t given birth yet and am already overwhelmed by the idea of people messaging me for updates on the baby or asking to come see her especially my MIL who talks about the baby like it’s hers 😭😭 I swear she announced and talked about my pregnancy more than I did. I already know I’m not gonna wanna talk to anyone while bleeding for a month and taking care of a baby at the same time and I wish people understood. It feels like my in laws are just love bombing me with affection so they feel entitled to access to my baby. I’m glad I at least set the boundary of not wanting anyone in the waiting room because it’s insane that anyone thought they were just gonna come in and hold my 20 minute old baby while I’m still laying there with my legs wide open 😭😭. Did any of you set certain boundaries or wait til after you left the hospital for visitors? If you had your baby already does replying to messages and request to see her feel overwhelming?

I haven’t had baby yet but I feel similar. My husband and I have decided that other than just a few close family members we aren’t even going to tell people I’m at the hospital until the baby is here and we’re ready to respond to messages.

I sent an email / text to friends and family as my due date approached explaining my guidelines and boundaries. I then directed any questions or comments to my husband so I could be in peace. Do what you want. This is your time not theirs.

I personally would give them a hint early…. “We would love for you to come meet baby on the third day we are home, the midwife said we will both need time to rest first” or something like that….! And then, just don’t text/call them too much once it’s all happening, give your husband the role of updating MIL once baby is there but make sure he’s clear dr has said you need to rest etc. Tell hospital staff you don’t want visitors if that’s the case.
