@Elle (i can't see waves) thanks for that. We are going to speak to the doctors tomorrow. I don’t want to feel pressured to take her home.
@Joanna Yeah understanding we was the same they kept saying " Ohh baby is say 36wks he can go home next week etc etc " - I was like nahhh you lot keep saying that and I hyped up 🤣 i said write it in your notes.... "The mum doesn't want baby discharge untill oxygen free and a feeding plan established." I even said you lot need to calm down and stop talking for me., I get you might need the bed or what not but I need my baby fully like established to what's comfortable for us as a family . Also, at the time, I really wanted to breast feed and it was hard as I wasn't always on the unit.,,, some nurses was like once he's on the bottle.... I was like what bottle Nopeee don't tell me how my baby will be fed.... jheeze ! When we roomed in I be honest - I didn't cope with breastfeeding but I gave it a shot however he was cluster feeding i couldnt leave the ward 🤣 And we did introduce bottles but on my words not a nurses grrrr!
I think he was bottle fed for 3days before we was all happy to go home as he was also off oxygen - i think he did a good 3 or 4 wks in nicu oxygen free before we took him home. This was all nearly 3yrs ago it's strange how you forget things , Although I feel like I birthed him yesterday. There so eagar for baby to be bottled fed and out of the door but stand your ground!! Xxx
We came home at 41 weeks (1 week corrected) on oxygen back in August and have been on oxygen since! We had our first sleep study at home a couple of weeks ago and have started weaning off slowly. Our little one was always tricky when weaning oxygen on the unit so rather than keep waiting for her to come off it we were able to bring her home with it. The tanks can be a pain and it requires more thought behind going out (needing extra space when parking to get baby and the tank out the car, cant be in places with candles or flames, always need to be mindful of the nasal canula wire etc) but it meant weve been able to enjoy her at home sooner! I think having a premie will always come with challenges but the way we viewed it was it will only be temporary and she will hopefully be off it before we realise! X
We didn't go home on oxygen, however my son had maybe 2 or 3 sleep studies before he was discharged, he came home at a corrected age of 42wks , he was born at 24wks , we did t wanna bring him home on oxygen and we told our nicu at the end of the day you got rights x
