C section

I’m currently 5 weeks postpartum recovering from a c-section and looking for advice for when to start exercising again. Before becoming pregnant I used to love staying active by going swimming and doing home workouts. Mentally I feel ready to begin working out again but not sure on the recommended recovery time🤍

It’s a hard question, it all depends when your ready but also your body at the same time ! I wasn’t able to drive for 3 months till after the C-section as that was recommended even though I felt fine incase I suddenly broke ! As long as you’re not doing too much heavy lifting or straining that could cause the stitch to stretch then you should be okay!

@Steph Thank you for your advice Steph. I’ve been recommended not to drive until I’m 6 weeks postpartum so have 1 more week to go. X

@Amie no worries! Have you had anyone check over your scars ? If so they should also be able to tell you if they think it’s more than okay? But I don’t see why not as long as your not in agony

@Steph The last check I had was when I was 3 weeks postpartum. My baby is due to get weighed with the midwife next week for his 6 week appointment so I might ask her just to have a look. How have you found recovery from your CSection ? X

@Amie I have messaged you on here 😊

Minimum 4 week break, besides a small walk. And then whenever you’re ready after that! It took 12-16 weeks for me to even attempt it 😅

@Lauren thank you Lauren for responding. What sort of exercises did you begin with ? X

It took me nearly 3 months to even go for a long walk, haven't attempted anything else yet as I'm so worried about being a lot of pain after it 🤦‍♀️ yet I'm absolutely dying to get back to the gym lol

I went to get checked at 6 weeks and was told that I was healing really well and could exercise but she said no tummy crunching exercises until 6 months pp

I'm desperate for a bath but inly had my baby by emergency c section nearly 4 weeks ago so don't think I can yet 😕

I was walking most days after week 1 and once cleared at 6 weeks I went to mummy yoga to start my strengthening my pelvic and core muscles. At 8 weeks got back into jogging and park runs xx

@Crystal Hi Crystal, I’m not sure if I was supposed to but began to have baths instead of showers at 4 weeks. I just made sure the water wasn’t too hot x

@Amie oh ok did you have bubble bath in it x

@Crystal I just had plain water just incase ☺️. I was just dying to have a bath xx

I am dying for one 😭 when did u start using bubble bath and how do u wash if u had just water?

@Amie I would ask your GP when you go there for your 6week post partum check, You and baby have to be seen face to face by your GP between 6&8 weeks post partum

Start walking first you’ll get an idea of how ready you’re body is and I would say I started working out about 3-4 months pp from csection

It depends on how your surgery went!I had a planned C-section due to breech and I got cleared for light arm or leg exercises by my OB at 2 weeks PP so long as the exercises didn’t engage my core. I started working out again in a more proper sense at 7 weeks PP with very easy exercises. I never had any issues with it. But again I had a planned C-section which usually results in a faster and easier recovery

@Crystal I started using bubble bath about 5 weeks. After I had a bath I’d stand up in the shower and have a wash with shower gel and my usual products then xx

@Natalie I also had a planned CSection for a similar reason to you. Is there any exercises you recommend for when you was 7 weeks ? x

@Amie yeah! So my husband is a personal trainer with experience working with postpartum folks. I did light overhead press, rows with cables from a lunge position, and squats first. For core we started with just holding the deadbug starting position focusing on keeping my low back flat on the floor and when I could do that, I moved onto toe taps from that position. I also started with holding a table top position with my knees lifted. After those started feeling a bit easier I also started working on side plank. I had to do that from my knees rather than my feet at first.
