Induction

I have been told by my consultant that they will recommend induction due to my GD, some point between 38-39 weeks, maybe earlier depending how big the baby is measuring later on. I need to read up on it but can anyone share their experiences? How were you induced, length of labour etc. good or bad so I can prepare myself 😊

When are you due? I'm in the same boat and due on the 8th so 28 weeks is Christmas day, obviously no induction happening then 🤣

@Adele I'm due 1 day after you and I'm the same boat. However they said with induction you can usually pick the date somewhat. My birthday is next to Xmas and they told me I can opt for a different day 😁

@Adele I’m due 4th Jan so really anywhere from 21st to 3rd Jan. I don’t know if this is true but I’m sure I heard they try and avoid you going into hospital on Christmas 😆 I hope we get to choose the date as I’d feel so bad if it ended up being on Christmas Day!

I don't think they do anything elective on Christmas Eve/ Christmas Day and same again for New Years but then there's also the weekend and they don't normally do anything elective at my hospital then either 🙈 so confused about when they'll want me in but baby is already really big so I don't think they want to wait until the 39th week! Let's keep each other updated when we hear anything ladies 😊

@Adele hmm that makes it a bit awkward 🙈 they told me today they won’t book it until my last scan which is at 35 weeks so will have to wait and see!

My next scan is at 31 weeks so I'll ask and let you know 😊 My obstetrician has said since I was 16 weeks that they probably won't want to let me go into week 39 so I think she'll be happy to discuss and book it at that appointment. Rubbish timing to be due when induction is on the cards isn't it 🤦🏼‍♀️🤣 Also to answer your original question, my mum was induced when she had me and had a great experience, vaginal birth, unassisted, gas and air only (at 39+6). I had already had the epidural when they broke my waters and gave me "something to help me along", it was intense but not painful as I had already had the epidural. I'm not expecting it to be too bad honestly, but will nag for the epidural until they let me have it 🤣

Hi I was induced with my first baby 2 years ago , due to measuring big , I was given 2 pessary tablets 1 day apart and by the 2nd I was 3cm dilated they then broke my waters at 12pm I took the epidural at 5pm and by 10pm I was 10cm , they left me for 2 hours to let baby move down by midnight I pushed for 50mins and out she came - 9lbs 2 she was , she did get a little stuck so I had an episiotomy but everything was fine ! I was in the shower around 2 hours after giving birth ! Healed really well ! X

I was induced with my first due to Gd at 39+5, they told me baby was measuring big and was looking to be 10 pounds so they induced me early… baby came out at 8 pounds 2oz so please don’t listen to them when they say baby is measuring big/small.

Hmmm…. How can I be positive 😅 let’s just say my opinion would be to opt for an elective section. And not get induced. I was induced and you get a higher change of utensils being used. Pain is much worse being induced 80 hours labour Waters broken so no water birth allowed Had to have forceps in the end 3a degree tear ( front to back ) 2L haemorrhage 4 blood transfusions Couldn’t sit down or walk for 12 weeks. I am going for a section this time as it’s calmer.

@Charlotte well that just sounds horrific, sorry you had to go through that. You’ve definitely prepared me for the worst!!
