Grammar school fury

We’re struggling to find a decent state secondary school for our bright, creative and dynamic ten year old. Meanwhile her very academic friends with wealthy parents who have paid for tutoring since year 4 have been offered places in grammar schools, including her best friends. I know people just want the best for their kids and I’d do the same for mine if I could. But I just hate the system so much. It’s so grossly unfair that children are segregated at such a young age and a small section are given a first class education whereas the rest just have to fumble their way through in under staffed and under resourced institutions. I’m so sad 😞 I just want the best for my kids and I wish the system supporting all in the same way. Or is grossly unfair. Anyone else feel same?

Did your daughter sit the 11+ ?

No. She didn’t want to do it and I didn’t want to force her

Have you looked into bursaries or scholarships at local private schools? There’s more help available than you might think.

Did the friends that were offered grammar school places sit and pass the 11+?

You can do well in state school if you apply yourself. I wasnt expected to get above an F. My GCSE predictions where Gs and Fs. I have 12 A - Cs. My a levels I got Cs and a merit. The school was in a deprived area and for a year I wasn't taught maths because the teacher could barely speak english

I agree it is so unfair. My oldest 2 got brutally bullied, and just passed along to the next teacher. And they don't fail kids here until grade 10 now, grade 9 when my older 2 were in school. The bullying was so bad my older 2 just got behind. The teachers didn't care. Now my youngest (9) is experiencing the same thing. She isn't bullied but because of some serious medical issues she missed a lot of school. Aaand her first year of school was Sept 2020. I pulled her out and am home schooling. I am so tired of the crap public school system here.
