C section hospital bag

It’s highly likely that I will have a planned c section instead of home birth 😭. Is there anything specifically different I should take in my hospital bag for this? Like bandage for after, compression socks?

From a nurse's point of view, your hospital should supply you with surgical compression socks (as these are different from the regular compression socks you can buy). They will also advise on how to care for your c-section wound and should supply you with any dressings to take home. They should also let you know how often to change it, when to remove the dressing completely, and to monitor for any signs of infection (redness, swelling, oozing, wound coming open, hot to touch). I work in a NICU so work closely with maternity, and this is what would be standard at my hospital. For your hospital bag, I can't speak from experience on anything extra to pack as I'm only expecting my first baby, but if your plan is to formula feed, maybe pack some extra ready to feed bottles as you might be kept in for a couple of days before getting discharged. Hope this helps! 😊

Agree with the above. I'd just also say to take snacks. If it's a planned section, they won't let you eat before and it could be a while until you get onto the ward and get food. Depending on the time, the ward may only be able to offer a sandwich so I'd definitely take snacks for the recovery room and after

Some c-section specific things I’ve packed is peppermint tea and chewing gum - you can get trapped gas after a c-section and apparently these can really help! I’ve also bought a c-section recovery band and a couple of night shirts so nothing rubs on the scar. I’m hoping to breastfeed but as Bekka says, will also be taking some ready made formula too 😊
