St Thomas London - elective

Hello ❤️ I wondered whether anyone on here has had an elective at St Thomas - London. I am 36 weeks today, and have been booked in for a virtual pre-assessment tomorrow. I just wondered if anyone has had one of these so I know what to expect (was surprised virtual owing to the need for swabs etc but can only assume that will be nearer to surgery) - I still don’t have a date yet. Thank you!

Yep! 👋🏼 both babies will be electives at St Thomas! Not had a virtual one though. Is this just a discussion with your assigned obstetrician and to decide a date? Your pre op is in person, usually the day or two before surgery and that’s urine, bloods, swab, omeprazole prescription, arrival instructions x

I just had my section a week ago. Was elective. I didn't have to do a virtual assessment though. My OB just booked it and I went into the hospital for a pre-admit appointment a few days before my section date.

@Sarah thanks Sarah! Yes odd isn’t it - I’ve already had my obstetrician appt back I sept where I was consented etc. would love it if it was to confirm my date 😂 despite the fact I know that if I were having vaginal birth I wouldn’t know I still can’t shake the feeling of wanting to know asap. I wonder if I can be cheeky and ask you another question as you were at Tommys too. I’d been working on the presumption it would be a 24 hour stay (not withstanding any complications) but my midwife today said oh no likely to be 2-3 days which through me a little bit!! How long did you stay? X

I stayed 2 nights but mine was not to schedule. I had an elective booked but my baby came 10 days early so I had to go straight there and get a slot on the day. It was actually really nice though as I got extra support for breastfeeding, I got extra pain relief and someone to help me adjust to new mum life (teaching me to swaddle), my newborn check was done by an amazing Evelina paediatrician, I got an extra night to recover and was discharged the next day. I felt really good and I think it was their care, I went home on the tube and was in Costco 2 days after. I got discharged with extra stockings, a whole bag of meds to take home and numbers to call if I needed. My scar is teeny (almost gone now, just in time to be reopened 😂), my 6 week check up was great and I was checked throughly for diastatis recti.

The only downside of St Thomas is those damn slow lifts 🤣

@Sarah I know, we’re not that close either (earlsfield) so it’s building in car travel time AND lift waiting time 😂 thanks for the info, will just need to be patient to see what this virtual appointment is all about tomorrow!

@Sarah another downside is the lack of parking. Anyone who is planning to drive there, add in extra time to your travel time as finding a space can be a nightmare.
