Midwife

Hey mums/mums to be, I have a midwife appointment tomorrow and would like to ask for an elective c section, but I'm not sure how to correctly ask for one. This is due to personal reasons and family related birth problems. Has anyone got any tips, or were you just straight up? Thank you, From an anxious mum to be, haha.

When I asked for mine I got told by the midwife that I would have to inform the hospital that I intend to give birth at, as midwives can’t book for you.

Yep mention it straight up to your midwife and then at your next hospital appointment. Don't stress over it, it's totally your choice and is your right to ask for one x

I was just really honest from the start and didn’t take any push back. It’s your right to choose it’s the law they can’t stop you! And it doesn’t matter on your reasons why just be firm. Mine then booked my consultants appointment to discuss it for this week (32 weeks) and it’ll go from there but they legally cannot turn you down unless there is a risk to your or your babies life. X

I would just say go in confident in your decision. I opted for an overdue c-section - I hoped to go naturally but if I went overdue I wanted a c-section rather than an induction. My midwife was supportive of the choice but when I saw the consultant they really pushed back when i came to booking it. Tried to push all the leaflets on inductions and pretty much talk me out of it but I stood my ground as I knew my mind and they eventually took what I was saying and booked it. Acknowledge what they’re trying to tell you but just let them know you’ve done the research you need to and you’re happy with the decision you’re making. You know what’s best for you, your body and your baby at the end of the day xx
