Had my sons done at 9 days old. Literally only cried during and for a short period after. Then he slept as usual through the night waking up to feed and didn't seem to be in pain when changing his nappy. Honestly I expected it to be harder than it was. Lots and lots of Vaseline on him a-swell as on the nappy! I also used sudocrem
Why didn’t you guys decide to do it when he was born? I think it will be harder for him now. My friend got her sons done around the same age your doing it and it was super painful for him. Praying for fast healing and recovery and he doesn’t feel a lot of pain.
Both my sons have been circumcised. My first was done at 2 days old. He felt nothing and healing was done within a few days, same time his umbilical cord dropped. My second was a few weeks old, due to a hospital stay. He cried a bit after, but it healed nicely. Depending on the method used the after care may differ. But the good thing is they are still babies and won’t remember it. It’s actually the best time, as I was advised by a doctor. Vaseline on the diaper to avoid anything sticking or drying on it, and sitting him in warm baths too. Just offer lots of cuddles.
Vaseline on the nappies until he’s 6 months - rub some around the area where the skin out taken off too. Warm salt baths after the plastic ring falls off - there’s a numbing gel u can get for down there for when it really hurts them (normal first day only ) lots of cuddles n breast milk
I had my son circumcised the day after he was born, and I recommend a lot of petroleum jelly on the diaper where his PP sits. Because if you don’t put enough on the gauze, it will get stuck to his PP and if this does happen, warm water will loosen up the gauze.
Both of my boys had theirs done while we were still in the hospital. Just all of the aquafore or petroleum jelly (non scented) and gauze. The hospital should provide some for you, but I'd get extra. Also, I requested to be present for both and only my second son cried, but it was more of a squeal for like, half a second and then he was asleep again. They give them a passy with some sugar on it to help sooth them and it works wonders (at least for my guys).
Mine had his after he was born! He didn’t care at all and all we had to do was put aquaphor in his diapers for like a week with no gauze.
@Cassandra I did it because teenagers are very cleanly and it could cause an infection then. It’s a hit or miss if your son showers when he should in his teenage years. Just wanted to get ahead of it.
I don’t understand why this is a practice. that’s literally the equivalent to them removing the clit hood from girls .. to each their own but couldn’t be me. My son is not circumcised and has never had an infection.. it’s so inhumane to do that just because y’all are afraid of infection.. 😒😒
It may look like that to you. And yes to each his own. It’s also a practice in many religions and cultures. No it’s not the same, as these are done in hospitals or GP practices. It’s clean, and it also minimizes the risk of contraction of HIV and other diseases
It’s still sad. What’s the reason parents aren’t allowed in the those rooms??.. and it’s so common for it to be botched.. hope all goes well with y’all. Just not my cup of tea.
So I had my sons done day after he was born. He cried for about 5 Mins then was ok. Sadly they didn’t do it right and the doctor said it may need to be redone if we want him actually correctly circumsized. They warned me the baby will be able to feel the pain more and will be more upset over it so we decided against it.
@Cassandra at our doctors at least one parent has to be in the room actually. Both of us were there for my son.
Apart from religious reasons, why do some parents circumcise their boys? Just curious as I have a son now, and it’s never crossed my mind

@Amanda for hygiene. When they aren’t it’s easy for them to get infections there or for it to be unclean. It all depends on how well you clean the skin and teach your child as they get older to!
Lots of Gauze and aquaphor healing ointment .
