@kylie this is so helpful! I’m planning to formula feed too, so really wanted to be able to give baby some with each feed to help, so thank you!
I've bought 10, 1ml syringes. This is probably a but ott to be honest but I had a lot and figure why not. I bought it in with me and they have put it in the freezer. I am being induced. You just need to keep it frozen long enough to get it to the hospital and they will put it in the freezer. I put my syringes in a zip lock bag in a lunch box with some ice packs in.
The NHS website recommend leaving them at home and asking someone to bring then into hospital for you if possible. They are so little that you risk defrosting if you are sent back home. Transport with some ice blocks in a cooler bag. You can also express some at the hospital after birth if you needed it. I did not take any with me last time and I did not need to as baby latched straight away. If you have a natural birth, everything going well, you'll be hone quickly so you can use then at home.
Last time I just took the 1 and you just take it to the hospital when in labour/scheduled to go in if its induction/c-section. When you get there you just tell them you have some in a syringe and they will pop it straight into the fridge for you until you give birth. I'm gonna take 3-4 with me this time so his first few feeds he can have some ( i formula feed so will give him a little before a feed ) Just make sure each syringe has your name and date and time of collection.
