Planned C Section Experiences

It is looking more and more like I will be having a C section. I had my first vaginally but this baby is sitting breech so a c section it is. What are some positive c section experiences? What should i expect? What are some must haves post partum? Will i be in pain the whole time after the spinal wears off?

I had an unplanned C-section and honestly it was a very good experience. You should expect a lot of people in the OR but a calm and supportive atmosphere. Must haves for me have been a supportive partner and family willing to help out. High waisted pants / dresses too! And as for pain, I never really had any. The hospital keeps you on a good routine of pain medicine. My hospital just gave me Tylenol and Advil and that was enough for me. By the end of week 1 being home I wasn’t taking any medication.

I’ve had two planned c sections now and both were great. Everything from the epidural to recovery went smoothly. Must haves are definitely high waist and loose clothing and underwear. A nursing pillow was really helpful too. As long as you take your pain killers on time after the spinal wears off you’re good.

1st pregnancy (urgent care section ) was in discomfort for months . 2nd pregnancy with twins scheduled c section . It was AMAZING ! The worst part was the uncomfortable hospital beds. Take Tylenol and ibuprofen at the same time . And must haves would be a heating pad and ice packs . You will get set up in a room they will have you change into a hospital gown , and start your iv. Then once taken back into the or you will get your spinal , and be laid down . Before you know it baby will be born 💙🩷they stitch you up and then taken back to your room to snuggle baby .

Had an emergency c section and it went really smoothly and quick. The staff explained everything and ensured my wishes were taken into consideration..we got to meet baby ASAP with the screen down and dad cut the cord. We also had the golden hour skin to skin so I could bf. I'd do it again as elective if I had to. Must haves are big granny pants Oversized, loose baggy clothing, painkillers and lactulose. Prunes as constipation is likely.

- High waisted cotton underwear - keep on top of your pain medication for as long as you need it - Do not do any more than you need to for the first 2 weeks at least! It's easy to overdo things because the pain medication is so effective, and overexerting yourself prolongs the recovery - Nursing pillow if you plan on breastfeeding - If you're going in ahead of your due date, and you hope to breastfeed, I highly recommend hand expressing colostrum before and during your hospital stay, and having a breast pump ready as your milk may take longer to come in
