I had mine a week ago and didn’t meet any of the team until the morning of the surgery (this included the midwife). Everyone who was in the room and had a role to play came to introduce themselves that morning. Not sure that you would meet the team beforehand but maybe at some hospitals?
I only met the team on the day of the c-section. They came into the room to introduce themselves
This is quite normal for the UK, you won't meet your medical team until the day of the surgery x
I met the anesthetic doctor like 10 minutes before and the surgeon when I was flat on the table, to be fair it didn't matter to me who was doing it. I just had to accept they all knew what they were doing.
As others are saying, I only met mine on the day, and it changed 10 minutes before to the emergency team because they had some time to spare!
I met surgeons, anaesthetist, and midwife the morning of the surgery, and then the rest of the team (scrub nurses and anaesthetic assistant) in theatre. And actually, by the time I went down to theatre one of the surgeons I’d met in the morning had gone off shift so I had a different one, who popped over to say a quick hello just before we headed to theatre. In case it helps any, the entire surgical team were absolutely BRILLIANT and made it a really calm, chilled process
I met the obstetrician and anaesthetist on the day who looked after me well in theatre, as they had messed up and not told me I had been moved to the morning list (which may have been my consultant) I had the emergency team but they were all so lovely and it was not as bad as I thought it would be! Generally you don’t know who will do the procedure until the day x
How is the C-section scar, do they make a big cut?
@Leila mine is fairly large and also off to one side, the midwife said it was usual and that baby must have been more to that side on the day so that’s where they made the cut, but I expect it may vary from person to person x
@Leila usually about 10-20cm
The one who booked my section wasn’t the one who did it. I don’t even remember seeing the consultant who did my section. He introduced himself and chatted all the way through with the team but it was such a whirlwind. I remember the anaesthesiologist and her assistants as they speak to you throughout the whole thing. Student consultant and anaesthesiologist did come to see me an hour before as well x
@Leila 10cm, nowhere near as big as I thought. All going well they make the cut quite small and will pull baby through. They will only make a larger cut if baby isn’t coming out easily maybe due to their position or something. Emergency sections usually have larger cuts as they don’t have time to carefully pull baby through the smaller gap. Honestly it was the best experience of my life, all being well you will love it! So calm and chill in there x
I didn't know who my doctor was gonna be until a hour before my c section, I don't know if that's normal or not
This is how surgery usually works just depends which surgeons are listed and available on the day. There are always consultants on hand to assist when necessary or as when needed! But you typically do not meet the surgical team until the day of and usually it’s only when you arrive to theatre you do meet the team x
