Membrane sweep

I believe I’m getting a membrane sweep at my appointment today. What should I expect? How painful is it? And how soon after am I “expected” to go into labor?

I had a membrane sweep in the hospital when being induced it wasn't very painful but definitely came with a wtf feeling. I can't say much for going into labor because that was just one of the things they did to induce me

If it triggers labor it’s usually within 48 hours. They don’t always work obviously but you could go back in a few days and have a second one if the first doesn’t work. I’ve heard that those are more successful!?!? For me they don’t hurt but are uncomfortable but I’ve never had one done under 3 cm and that probably helped. You might have some spotting or your bloody show after and expect some cramping even if it doesn’t kick off labor.

@Aubry thank you! Okay. Makes sense. I’m getting so nervous but I’ll power through!!! 🤞🏼🤞🏼🤞🏼

@Teela thank you!!! Reassuring on the pain part 🙌🏼

My first time hurt so badly, got it done 4 times with my first (I went to 42 weeks) & with my second my water broke that evening.

@Jessica Ewart omg that sounds awful!!! Well it’ll be just one for me.. if this doesn’t work I’m getting induced on the 1st due to my diabetes. 😩

Just got one done today. I’m still very high and closed so she really had to get in there, it was just a big uncomfortable but it was pretty quick
