postpartum stitches and healing

How many days did it take for your stitches to heal after birth? They ended up giving me third-degree stitches. I’m on day 5 after delivery, and there's a bit of light bleeding from one of my stitches, and it really hurts. It especially stings a lot when my pad touches that area. I’m starting to wonder if maybe some of my stitches have come undone. I delivered my baby with forceps, and since the baby was big, they had to make cut. My bleeding is about the same amount as a period. Did they recommend any cream or anything for your stitches? All they told me was to use painkillers, but I’m really in a lot of pain.

I don’t have experience but I read freezing pads with witch hazel on can help the discomfort. Might be worth trying x

I used the frozen pads and the witch hazel as well ⬆️ I remember as my stitches started to heal more and the swelling came down I’d get some slight pain if I sat down too fast or did anything that spread that area (like sit w my legs crossed). I got my stitches checked early bc I wanted to make sure everything was healing well. If it’s really getting painful, I’d have it checked!

Mine dissolved in a week but I also had one spot that still hurt and bled so I thought I busted a stitch but it eventually healed and no longer hurts. I had a 1st degree incision that turned into a 3rd degree tear. I would not use any creams. Tucks pads and I've heard sitz baths help

Definitely have it checked. I had forceps and episiotomy and my cut got infected, leading to stitches coming undone. I needed antibiotics for two weeks and extra checks. If it doesn't feel right, get it checked x

Thank you so much all! 💕💕 I’ll make my stitches to checked today, it doesn’t feel right to me🥲

I had internal tearing and a fuuuuull episiotomy with forceps and I think maybe 2 weeks I stopped feeling so stiff and sore! The stitches came out on their own around week 3. I was in a lot of pain for the first 3-7 days but ALWAYS get checked out if you’re ever unsure! Your health visitor will likely wanna check stitches as well at checkups but I’d call just to get looked at to be safe. There’s a brand I can’t remember but they do witch hazel pad liners and the spritz for bits helped massively. As well as a peribottle!

Tucks, dermoplast and aloe on pads, sitz bath is what I did with my firstm they did get worse at about 1 week and I got them checked, turns out they tied it In a place where the knot from the stitches was rubbing so it hurt bad.

I went to the hospital today, and the midwife said my stitches have come undone.😢 It’s only my fifth day after giving birth! Now they’ve referred me to a doctor who will check again to make sure there’s no infection. If needed, they might stitch me up again, but they said that’s a small chance. I really hope they don’t have to because I’m so exhausted and just want to focus on my baby 🥺

@Favi I hope they’re gonna tell me this too. I really don’t want to restitches again😢

@Hilal not to be tmi but what are you doing with wiping after the toilet? A peri bottle that turns upwards and some warm water will be really good for your stitches if you aren’t already! Will help to not agitate them x

Mine wasn't restitched. They said when there's an infection, they can't restitch it. A peri bottle really helped me x

I had the same issues, my stitches came undone and they got infected. It felt worse than labour pain at times. I found sitting on a ring donut cushion (used for hemeroids) was a life saver for me, it took the pressure off when sitting down. Mine took weeks to heal as I got infected twice. Take it easy mama, they should give you some stronger painkillers than paracetamol or ask your GP for some. I also used Arnica, a herbal remedy. And try not to worry so much about them having to restitch you, they have to advise you of this but rarely have to do it as the antibiotics should clear the infection.

It took about 6 weeks for my stitches to heal internally from standard cesarean
