UC nursery fees

I’m going back to work and am Wondering is it better for me to have the fees paid by UC or to take the 15 free hours? As far as I’m aware you obviously cannot do both?

You can do both. It's just tax free childcare you can't get on UC.

@Laurie oh ok thanks. And UC will cover the amount left over after the free hours? Will UC cover the first months nursery payment?

Yeh if it’s vital for you starting work you can ask them to pay in advance x

Yes and yes there's a fund you can ask for to pay the first month..I can't think what it's called though sorry

Make sure you give them enough notice. With your employment contract and a contract from the nursery covering a suitable amount of time for the amount of hours you're working. As they won't cover full time if you're working part time etc. Also, you can take the invoice for the first month to them and they normally pay the nursery directly for the first month.

It’s called upfront childcare costs and there’s an eligibility criteria to meet for it. If you are going back to the same job you won’t qualify for it. You’ll need to complete some paperwork which details your working pattern and the nursery pattern and you are better off doing it well in advance. Going forward you can claim for up to 85% of your childcare costs back.
