Thanks @Shaylee! About how long do you get to pump while at work? I typically go longer than 30mins but I work at a school and I’m unsure I’ll get the opportunity to pump as long as I do while at home.
@Ki if you’re in the US you just have to communicate your time needed for pumping, so I’d say send an email and let them know you will need 40 minutes every three hours during the work shift. If they give you a hard time about it, get an IBCLC to write you a medical note. I’d also still recommend getting an IBCLC if you don’t have one, they’re the best for nursing/pumping support. Mine has been amazing, I found her through the Lactation Network. They found her for me in my insurance network and everything, and she helps us manage this whole journey so well.
Are you a teacher at a school. My friend worked it out with some aids and Para's that they would come into the room and work and cover for her while she stepped away. If your school lets you. I even when I didn't have kids in my room would come in and cover for 30 mins. So talk with other teachers as well if you are a teacher. If not I'm sure there is something that can be worked out. Most schools I've worked at have been very accommodating to moms pumping.
@Brittany I’m actually a Para and since I have a wearable pump things have been working out. If I weren’t able to be hands free I feel things would’ve been more difficult.
Heyyyy mama. I am right there with you. It is probably one of the toughest things I’ve done so far, going back to work. All I can say is make sure you pump every 3 hours on the hour after you last fed baby, if your supply is good. So if you nurse at 8:30 and drop off baby, pump at 11:30am and 2:30pm for example.
