Private nursery/School nursery

Hey everyone, just wondering if anyone can help explain the difference between private nursery and school nursery? My LO has been attending a private nursery for the past six months and since September we've received the 15 hours free funding. A friend asked whether I've started looking at school nursery for my LO, but I hadn't even considered it. So just wondering how it works really! At what age does school nursery become applicable? Do you pay as you would per session like you do with a private nursery? Just trying to understand whether there's any advantage/disadvantage to LO being in a school nursery or if it's better to keep him where he is until he starts reception.

All nurseries are private as far as I’m aware. So all you have to pay for. Some will accept funding and some can opt out. When little ones gets to age 3 (or first term after their third birthday I think) you can send them to a play school or some people call it pre school which is not private. Or you can choose to carry on sending them to the private nursery. Play/pre schools are close to being free with the 30 hours funding I believe. If I’m incorrect if anyone could correct me I would appreciate that haha x

When my daughter gets to age 3 I’m going to keep her at her nursery but send her to the pre school attached to the local school for one day a week, so she can meet children she’ll be going to school with (her nursery isn’t that local) x

There’s no advantage moving a child to a school Nursey and they only run in term time x

I live in wales so only get free hours when they turn 3 (30 free hours) A public nursery is for when they turn 3, and will attend every morning or every afternoon Monday - Friday. You can however stay in private nursery and use the 30 hours more flexibly. I’ll be keeping mine in private as it doesn’t work with my job as I’d have to pay for wrap around care. Hope this makes sense

Usually only main difference is that a school nursery- not a private nursery attached to a school, will be run/led by a qualified teacher x

School-based nurseries are nurseries geographically attached to a school, but they are not always run by the school, sometimes is just a ‘normal’ nursery using a space provided by a school. Either way, you’d still need to pay. This article might help: https://tapestry.info/school-based-nurseries-what-are-they-what-they-bring-to-sector/

I've ruled out pre-school and will stick with nursery, we need care all year, not just term time
