36 weeks and 8lbs 4!!!

I’m just posting as feeling super nervous - had my 36 week growth scan yesterday and baby is already supposedly 8lb 4! Which is way above what she should be - don’t have a consultant apt until Monday - feeling so nervous as this is my first baby and scared about giving birth to a whopper. Would they still wait till I’m 37 weeks before inducing ?? Scared she will have grown a lot in that space of time …

Oh darling , I know you’re scared but try not to worry too much . At 39 weeks I was told my daughter was over 10Ibs and she came out 8Ibs so measurements are rarely accurate. Take your time to make the best decision for you and your baby xx

Take the measurements they give with a pinch of salt! I had growth scans and GTT tests from 28 weeks plus as baby was always 4-5 weeks ahead in terms of size. I had a scan at 38+6 as was due to be induced the following day, they told me that the baby was going to be 10-11lbs. My waters went hours later & she made an appearance the following day at 8lbs 4!! They cannot give a true / accurate reading via the scans x

They cannot accurately tell you the weight of your baby, how can they!? Measurements ie length, head circumstance yes ok, but weight!? I'm on baby 6 and they have told me 3 of them were large...yet turnt out 6lb 11 and 7.2. You're absolutely fine and they shouldn't be leaving these overwhelming thoughts in your head. You are a woman, you are powerful and strong and are made to birth your baby. Believe in yourself x

Do they induce for big babies without gd??

@Josie yes

@Josie they recommend it, but you ALWAYS have a choice. Always worth pushing for evidence to support, second opinions etc ultimately it is your decision though x

Yeh these measurements are rarely accurate and they are just scaring you. There is no evidence that induction for so called big babies (GD or no GD) is beneficial/improves outcomes. If they mention things like shoulder dystocia to you, induction actually increases the chances of that happening as the body is forcing the baby out and not letting it take its time! But also, people birth big babies all the time absolutely no problems! Your baby is the perfect size for you!

I had a C-section with my first for this same reason. He turned out to be 8lb 8 and not the massive record breaking baby they made out he was going to be! Same thing is happening this time, although I’m electing for a section again anyway.

My growth scans were wildly out, i was told my 1st baby was 11lb 8oz and the next day he was born at 9lb 4oz

Thank you guys it’s actually put my mind at ease seeing all your comments - they only diagnosed me with gd at 33 weeks pregnant so she has quite a big belly bless her. Fingers crossed everything will be fine xxx💕
