Help. Postpartum Anxiety

Hi! Really looking for some advice. What can safely be prescribed to a breast feeding mother for panic attacks caused by postpartum anxiety ? My doctor is saying nothing and suggesting talk therapy which I just don’t have time for, she also said SSRIs are a no go. I’m confused because according to my research there should be options for me..

Doctor is wrong. Zoloft is considered safe for post partum and women who breastfeed.

That's incorrect I was put on Zoloft (generic sertraline) for PPA it's safe for breastfeeding mothers, it's even considered safe for pregnant women. I also have hydroxyzine to take as needed to help with attacks. I would speak with a different doctor not sure if it was your OB or primary who said that whichever it was contact the other office for an appointment.

My doctor always said while ssri’s are an option other non chemical methods should be tried first. Just like with any thing chemical ( think pesticides on our food) we really don’t know the long term effects, we cannot be sure. It depends on your risk tolerance eg some people don’t drink coffee even though it’s ‘generally’ safe.weight the risks and benefits. The f SSRIs can help you with other aspects ( other than bfing) of being a mom like bonding and playing with LO go for it for sure
