Return to work childcare

For people returning to work, what age will your LO be when you plan to return and what are you doing about childcare. FTM feel a bit lost with it all. My parents live a couple hours away so may be able to help occasionally and my partners parents don't live in the UK. Would love to hear about other people's options x

I won't be returning to work until my LO is 13 months old, at which point she will go into nursery. I'm hoping to be able to condense my hours into 4 days, so will be 4 days in nursery and 1 at home with me 😊 x

My boy will be 8 months when i return to work and he'll be in nursery 3 or 4 full days per week depending on if my MIL can help out 1 day per week.

I’m taking full 12 months mat leave and I saved all my holiday so LO will be about 13 months when I go back to my part time work, she is registered to start nursery then as I haven’t got anyone who can help with childcare.

My LO will be 9 months. He’s down to do 3 days a week providing work will let me condense my full time hours and do 4 day weeks. If they do he’ll do 3 days and I’ll wing the last day at home with him as I work from home. If they don’t let me do 4 days then he’ll go to nursery 4 days a week while I work 5 days.

My boy will be 6 months when I go back to work so will have to pay for 1 day a week nursery (part time 2 days a week other day is weekend when husband will be home) until August when he gets his free hours x

With my first I returned to work full time after 1 year of mat leave and put him in nursery full time. I took the extra days that accrued during mat leave to have (28) Fridays off. I’m doing the exact same this time!

My LO will be 9 months when he starts nursery in May. 2 days a week to start. My mum and MIL will do the other days, and I am taking a day off every week as holiday until September when I can get an extra nursery day!

I had just over a year off with my first and he went into nursery after he turned one. I started back on reduced hours and after a few months gradually went back to full time and he went to nursery full time. It’s the best thing i ever did for him. With my second, I’ll be doing the same, I’m going back after my eldest starts school next September. But I’ll probably go back full time straight away. Eldest will be in school and wrap around care and baby will be full time in nursery. We don’t have any family to have him etc even though nursery is expensive, it’s not as much as either of us earn a day so we’re still better off than if we cut our hours. The baby will get 30 hours free by the time he turns 1 I believe, so this will help massively.

I'll be returning just after she turns 1, as I'm taking the full year. I'll be work 3/4 days a week (the 4th day every other week will be Sunday so daddy is home). My parents will have her 1 day and nursery 2 days. By then we'll qualify for 30 hours funded childcare so im taking advantage of that. We'll only have to pay minimal amount for food

Little tip for anyone looking at nurseries for the first time worth checking what the costs are in detail, for example my nursery charges £3 an hour for food and consumables for the free hours as apparently this isn’t covered in the funding they receive for the free hours, I think my nursery charges more than others but worth checking so you don’t get a shock. I know this has come as an unpleasant surprise to a friend recently. x

I will be working from home and setting my own hours so my sister in law will be round to help 2 days a week and my partner has 2 weekdays off (but works weekends) so we are just going to juggle it between us 😬 hoping to not send her to nursery just kindergarten at aged 3.

I'm returning when my son is 5 months. As much as I would like to have more time, we cannot financially afford for me to just be getting statutory maternity pay. I'm going back full time and my son will be going to a childminder.
