Free hours / childminder

Hi Ladies ! My little one is my first one and I totally don’t know anything about funded hours and nursery etc. I know to get hours you need to work then I will look for job and I wanted send my little one to childminder but I just don’t know how to work this out. First find childminder then job and apply for hours or I can apply before finding job? And how is this working ? Let’s say I need to apply for January or I can send my little any time ? 🙈

You need to be in work before you can even apply for the hours and many childminders and Nurserys have waiting lists now.

@Louise I found childminder is just about hours

@Louise I heard that I need to work when applying or start job in 31 days from applying.

Yes you need to have a start date within 31 days so you have a job lined up or they won’t approve. Once you get the code you give that to the childminder who can claim the funding. It is 15 hours term time only or if you do it all year round if your childminder lets you then it’s about 1 full day per week. It comes off your bill then you pay the rest and use the tax free childcare scheme

As Louise said, you can receive the free 15hr code and also tax free childcare. This one you get on your end by doing the below. 1. You create a child account on gov.uk and a payment account will be created for you 2. Every month you will deposit money into this payment account. 3. You will then add your childminder onto the child account by searching them with their reference number. 4. Each time you add money onto your payment account the government will participate too. Lets say about 20% on the amount you deposit. ex. £500 in > gov. will give you £125 For every 3 months the maximum amount you can receive is a total of £500 I thought it was a bit confusing but once I followed all the steps on childcare choices it was straightforward. https://www.childcarechoices.gov.uk/ Hope this helped x
