i see so many moms on here saying “you’re extra fertile postpartum” and it irks me because it literally is not true. google it, there is no scientific evidence to back these claims

There might not be evidence but even I was told by both my midwives and health visitors that it's true, so more than likely mums are just repeating information they've been told.

Maybe they just say that so you’re extra careful

The reason why people say that is often cause your cervix doesn’t close back up over night after dilating enough to push out a baby. So technically yeah you are extra fertile cause the cervix isn’t working at peak functionality

This is one of those things you shouldn’t trust google on.

Uhh I know so many women with rainbow babies and Irish twins because of this... 👀

@Kim you shouldn’t trust multiple articles with scientific studies?

it all depends on if you’re ovulating or not. otherwise there are no other factors that make any difference

Your cervix being more open, or tender & healing back to its typical function does infact impact how easily sperm can access the rest of your reproductive system. So I mean there’s that. (Same reason your more susceptible to infections) Like the 6 week rule is there cause that’s how long it takes for your cervix to go back to normal functionality.

I would like to look at these studies and if these studies compared to how long it typically takes women to get pregnant the first time vs subsequently.

Sometimes you have to believe what you’ve experienced over Google.

I have heard some people claim they're more fertile after miscarriage. It happened to a friend of mine

Maybe there isn't evidence because no one cared to study it. Seems to happen a lot with certain women issues.

From my understanding, you’re more susceptible to getting pregnant postpartum because of the delay in getting your period back. Some women go months without a period during postpartum therefore making it difficult to know when you’re ovulating. For example if your having unprotected sex during postpartum and your period hasn’t returned, there’s no way for you to know when it will return and there’s a chance you have sex when you’re ovulating.

It’s been true before my eyes too many times to believe it’s NOT true. Soooo many babies even I’ve seen on this app immediately PP and I haven’t even been on here long lol

@Krystyna most likely you aren’t ovulating if you don’t have a period

It’s basic biology. You have to ovulate before you can get your period. If sperm doesn’t meet egg then your body starts preparing for your period to start. At some point during postpartum your period starts back, however you don’t know when that is. So you don’t know when that ovulation window will happen.

It took me 4.5 years to conceive my first kid. My second is 12 months apart from the first.. I know there’s no scientific proof that I’m aware of but it’s gotta be true! How the heck did I get pregnant so quick the second time!

Remember you ovulate BEFORE your first period. And for some, you ovulate almost immediately after birth. The real warning there is dont assume you are not going to fall pregnant purely because you are newly postpartum and have not yet started menstrating. There is also evidence that once you have had your first baby, your body wants to fall pregnant. It gets significantly easier with your second+ pregnancies, so in a way, you are more fertile. Obviously this isn't the case for everyone, but it is very common. I would argue telling people they are NOT fertile after birth is more dangerous. The amount of people i know who have done IVF and have fallen pregnant quickly and naturally the second time, or who are breastfeeding and think they can't get pregnant..... It's not worth the risk!

I just feel that when your body has successfully carried a baby to term, it’s more likely that your body will know how to do it again. Like it’s prepared because it’s been through it. But that’s just a gut feeling, no science to back that up, so no hate.😅

I’m from a huge family of generations of Irish twins (g-Grannie had 16 kids back to back). We all got our periods back within weeks of birth, ovulating literally 1/2 months after birth. My period was bang on 9 weeks after my birth so I ovulated at 6/7 weeks postpartum. Your body after having a baby literally wants to get pregnant again, your hormones are through the roof, your cervix hasn’t closed properly, it’s so easy to get pregnant. Many believe they cannot get pregnant if they breastfeed but my family is a perfect example of how that’s BS 😂 Some people try for years for baby 1, but baby 2 comes straight after. Pregnancy is a huge hormonal reset.

I’m sorry but I disagree with you and I guess science haha. Every single health professional I went near during pregnancy and after warned me about how I’d be fertile after birth and let’s just say they were right. It took 3 years of unexplained infertility to conceive my first child. We had ivf appointments booked and ready. I got pregnant with my second first time only 6 weeks after giving birth to my first. My second is now 9m and me and my husband have been trying for a 3rd and are now struggling again

My doctor told me this was true lol
