Planned C section

I would like to have a planned C section and I’ve been wanting this for a while. They kept trying to put me off but I’m really trying to push for it. They then told me I can see a consultant at 36 weeks. Im currently 31 weeks I’m worried that 36 weeks is too late to see someone for this. Have any of you had planned and when did you see a consultant?

I had mine about 32 weeks and a provisional section date was booked but nothing has been 💯 finalised until my appt next week at 36+1. I guess it depends on reasons for a section.

You have to push back! I just had my consult appointment yesterday and he told me that there were no spaces in that week and that they are fully booked! I am 35 weeks this week. I have a scan and a midwife in a couple of weeks time as well. I am now on a waiting list and hoping baby doesn’t decide to come sooner

I had an appointment with the consultant at 33 weeks (including growth scans) where I told them I finally made my decision and I wanted a planned c section. She was surprised to say the least but with other medical conditions I know she couldn’t say no. She booked me in then and there for my pre op and op date. I have another appointment next week but I’m guessing it’s just to check the baby’s growth. I hope this helps x

Push back on the midwife to refer you to a consultant sooner. You can say you want to discuss birth options and want yo find out more about csections. Had mine around 28 weeks and the consultant booked my appointment then too.

You legally can’t be refused a c section - it’s your birth right to have it as a birth choice, even if you were in labour and requested one I think based on availability they need to try and make it possible. I will only get my c section date a week before hand this time and with my last pregnancy I was told it at around week 36 so not unusual for it to be fairly close to the end of pregnancy

I decided on my when I was 38 weeks. Was told it would be unlikely there would be slots and that it would have to be a cat 4 c section rather than elected. Was called a week later and given my date of my elected c section which took place when I was 39+6. So even if they say they won't have any slots, you won't know until the person booking people in gets back to you

I didn’t ask for my C-section until about 36 weeks or 37 weeks. Had it at 40+2 weeks

Had appt with consultant at 34 weeks yesterday. I had already been provisionally booked in for 17th December since about 26weeks but yesterday they realised I was booked in at there sister hospital miles up the road which I refuse to go to when I live next door and work at my local. 17th was fully booked for my local They then offered me 23rd (due date is 24th and baby is measuring big) I declined as scared about going into labour. So then they offered me 12th which I agreed too and it’s been finalised. I’d say 36weeks is the latest I’d leave it. I heard the Christmas week and week before gets booked up quickly that’s why I might have had issues.

You have to push back ! They did nothing but scare monger and back me into an induction which was traumatic , stand your ground! But 36 weeks seems around right for speaking to a consultant about it as they won't do it before 38 weeks anyway normally. Just keep speaking to your midwife about it whenever they see you just to make sure it's on file and recorded that this is what you want as trying to get an elective section is like getting blood out of a rock

Thanks for your help everyone I will keep speaking to them about it!

@Tanya I randomly have an appointment with the sister hospital for mine as well but it didn’t say what for! But it’s in December - I’m guessing it’s with the consultant. Are you saying you had the c section at 36 weeks? Or that you had the meeting? Because mine is just a meeting.

I wouldn’t leave it later than 36 weeks to confirm a date for a C-section. If you have got a date by then I’d definitely be pushing for one! Question that appt at the other hospital if your not sure what it is I didn’t and for weeks I’ve been thinking my baby will be born on the 17th December 😂 until I realised and I point blank refused to go to the other hospital x

I had an appointment with the consultant at 36 weeks and have been booked in for 39+4. Don’t let them back you in to a corner if this is what you feel is right for you because they will! And if they try to refer you to a birth choices clinic at your consultant appointment like they tried with me as a last attempt to change your mind, you can also refuse this. It’s hard but advocate for yourself and if you have someone to go with you to help advocate for you too then do. Ultimately they can’t refuse you one, it’s your birth right and if one consultant refuses they have to refer you one that will. Good luck 😊

Wow! I will see if I can get seen sooner! Shouldn’t be this difficult for us all! Thanks for your help! And hope all of you are okay ❤️
