@Sophie our parents and shopping places are literally 10mins away from us on the car. She makes it so difficult for us.. She is the exact same she’ll cry so much that she’s sweating.
Sorry you’re going through this! My oldest was like this and yes he just grew out of it! I take my 4mo around in the carrier pretty exclusively lol 😂 he hates the pram, will sometimes tolerate the car seat if a. I sit in the back with him or b. If he’s just woken up and doesn’t need a feed or c. He’s exhausted and falls asleep…. But it’s very variable! Is there a local Nct sling library near you? If so you can go there with your carrier and get them to adjust it for you so it’s more comfortable, you can also borrow different brands to try! X
Similar to Sophie, my little boy used to be exactly like this!! Also 23 weeks on Friday...I used to find it so traumatic going anywhere and ended up missing baby classes I'd paid for and decline invitations everywhere simply because I was so anxious about the car. The only thing I did differently was buy a bigger mirror for the car so I could see him better but that may just be coincidence! I think it's more likely it's age and he has grown out of it/realised that I'm not trying to torture him! I feel your pain though as it was horrendous. I hope she grows out of it soon for you 🤞 With the pram, are you using bassinet still as my boy loves the pram now he can look around since I changed it over to the next one up?x
I had similar experience with my first born, we ended up taking her to an osteopath which helped, they said she was really tense most likely from the long labour and they did some work to help. Definitely something to look into if you haven’t tried it!
My girl is almost 6 months and used to cry alot in the car until recently. She has just done a 200 mile trip up north with very little crying bless her! We did stop after 2 hrs though, but thankfully she just slept for most of it
I sit in the back with her in the car, I took her out once alone and I nearly had an accident because of how much she was crying so I refuse going out alone with her in the car again! Because she’s able to sit up alone now I’ve changed her from the bassinet to the other attachment. I face her towards myself so she can see me at all times but even then she’ll scream! We have toys hanging from everywhere so she can be distracted but even her fav bunny goes out the window when she’s hysterically crying 😂😩 I’m just hoping she grows out this terrible phase and starts to enjoy it, I feel rubbish not able to get out. She’s super clingy too which doesn’t help. My little boy was amazing at her age, you could leave him in the pram/car seat all day and he would love it. Even independent playing, with my little girl if she can’t see me in the same room she’ll cry. It’s DRAINING.. who said motherhood was easy?? Sure isn’t for me 😂
Do you have still carrycot or you switched to more sitting part for the pram? As my girl lives pram more now when laid back in sitting part. Also maybe her tummy is not comfortable and that could be reason she hates it 🤷♀️
My first was like this. She hated the car seat until we moved to the next stage seat (we have ERF ones that are more upright) and she could see more. She was happier in the pushchair once we moved to the seat but she still loves being in a carrier. I’d suggest getting a fit check at your local sling library as mentioned above, or if there’s not one near you there’s a FB group called Babywearing UK where you can post photos for a fit check. We also saw an osteopath as she had torticollis and tension from the forceps birth.
About the car seat, does she still have the newborn insert or have you taken it out? My girl used to scream in the car seat until we took the newborn insert out cause it was hurting her. Also she used to hate the bassinet and we swapped it for the sitting one and she loves it
Mine is the same, but I just get on with it. Eventually she sobs herself quiet. How we react teaches her a lot. I ignore her, don't get her out of it, and that helps her realise she isn't getting the attention. There's no need to get anxiety over it, she really won't remember crying over a seat when she's older.
Oh my 5 month old can be like this… have you checked to see if she’s comfortable in the car seat? Do the inserts need to come out? My babe is a very nosey baby and is much happier in the carrier facing outwards and I know she’ll be happy once she can sit up in the pram. Maybe your little one will be the same? Keep going though mumma, I completely understand how hard it is! Xx
Is she chin to chest? Car seats are not created equal so might be a case of finding a more comfortable one for her. Mine is a bit chin to chest it's the joie igem I wish I got a less upright one. Also she may want to see someone in the car like someone next to her, I have the infant carrier in the passenger seat next to me driving, as long as the airbag is turned off it is legal and in most cars it's easy to turn it off/on again for if someone else sits there. My son is almost 5 months and too long for his pram so he does cry sometimes in there, I have to prop him up with a cushion otherwise he gets frog legs! Could she be getting too long for it? Not sure what solution is otherwise as not at right stage for a buggy!
My little boy also hates the car seat!!! He's hated it from day 1. Tried the carry style & the bigger fitted style... makes no difference! Sounds ridiculous but there's a song called "The Happy Song" by Imogen Heap - it's known to calm babies in the car... no idea why... but it actually works!!! It's my regular sound track now on Spotify 🤣 xx
Have u tried putting the cat seat in the front with you so she can see u. Failing that maybe some headphones whilst ur in the car lol x
This was us until about a week ago. He's 23 weeks old. We did nothing different, he's just all of sudden stopped screaming in the car. Don't know if it's just that he's old enough to know the reflection in the mirror is me or what but he's so much better. He'll stay calm for 10-15 mins and then he'll whinge but it hasn't got to screaming (we had similar to you, he used to be drip wet through from sweat). I limited myself to 10 min journeys for a while then built up to 15 mins as it wasn't safe for me to drive him as I was so distracted. Maybe that helped now I think about it.
