I had a half planned half emergency (long story) and I remember every second of what happened! It was all a pretty positive experience for me! X
I wasn't out of it .. I knew everything that was happening and completely all there. I enjoyed both my sections.
I wasn’t out of it, I was fully aware of everything going on and quite enjoyed the experience, everyone told me exactly what was going to happen and then what was happening when it was going on x
I had a very rushed emergency one, I didn’t feel out of it at the time & I do remember it although it does feel like a blur. But I think the fact that it was middle of the night & the pain of labour had wiped me out, it was making it difficult for me to focus on what was actually going on. I imagine if it had been planned and you have more time to absorb everything it would have probably been a better experience
Mine wasn't planned as such and I wasn't out of it at all (after having Gas & Air, an epidural and then the anaesthetic). I was very much aware of what was what and I was able to hold my baby as soon as we got out of theater - I was then discharged 6hrs later. If you're worried then always speak to your midwife, anesthetist and surgeon x
I had an emergency c section with my first which I was completely out of it. No memory of it at all. Second c section was planned and a completely different experience. Fully aware of everything that was going on. Huge team around me and all we're communicating every step so nothing was a surprise. Couldn't have had a better experience. And I remember every beautiful second ❤️
Mine was an emergency and I was out of it. I am curious of the experience of women with planned csections as well. I kept telling the nurses that I felt half conscious for a few hours after surgery. When they took me to recovery they kept asking if I wanted to try breastfeeding and I wanted to so bad but I was so anxious feeling like I was half in half out. I just felt off. So I had to tell them I wasn’t ready for at least the first 6 hours. Thank God I had colostrum on hand. I would love to hear experiences about the women who fell out of it as well
I had emergency and was aware of everything going on around me but was really upset about the whole situation. I reacted to the drugs so had the itcy nose like hayfever and when they gave my daughter to me to hold I was worried as one of my arms were numb. But once I was in recovery I enjoyed my cuddles more as didn't feel so overwhelmed or itchy xx
At the time, I was fully aware, my sister said I looked high as a kite. I can't remember everything, but I think that's more the whole emotions of the day, rather than the actual meds. But maybe I'm wrong?
Mine was an emergency. I wasnt out of it at all. However I was in my own little zen world trying not to freak out that I was about to be undergoing my worst nightmare senario.
I wasn't out of it at all, had a good old natter with everyone who was in there with my Husband and I.
With my unplanned c section I was super out of it for a while after. I wanted to give birth without an epidural so when they took me to get surgery they didn’t have time to do an epidural/spinal before surgery so they did general anesthesia. If it’s a planned section you’ll be alert and awake. It’s kinda weird being awake during tbh cuz it feels funny. Not painful just weird
I had an emergency C-section with my first and I have a planned in the next couple of weeks where I imagine I’ll be totally “with it”. I was a bit “out of it” with my first but not because of anaesthesia or pain meds or anything like that, but because I’d just gone through 26 hours of labour and hadn’t slept for 48!
Remember every single detail of my planned section and totally not out of it.

I was alert and remember every beautiful moment
I wasn't out of it. Ugh, I could cry thinking of it because I was so over joyed seeing him and brushing his hair with my hand. Such a wonderful moment when you finally meet 🥰 I will say a bit of nausea and dizziness did occur, but not to a degree to remove me from the moment. Keep your anesthesiologist updated, be honest with how you feel and they'll tinker with the drugs to keep you on track 👌
I’m wasn’t out of it but o was very drugged up, I lost consciousness a couple times during the section but when I was awake I was fully aware
I LOVED my c section, like every single moment was magical. Wasn’t out of it by any means but the spinal made me very drowsy but it didn’t stop me not having an awareness of anything that was happening at all just super duper sleepy x
I wasn't out of it, but i did space out a bit, mostly because I didn't like the feeling of them rummaging around! I remember it all more clearly than my husband even who was a bit over whelmed. This time is my 2nd elective, and I've just started an "abdominal birth" hypnobirthing course which is amazing.
My emergency C-section was traumatic! It’s a blur and I was barely there the first two night for my baby! I am hoping my planned one goes great!
@Sarah Aaww so lovely to hear positive experiences! How was your recovery?
My recovery was actually really good, I stayed two nights and then took public transport home. Kept on top of my meds, had no mobility issues and was at Costco day 5 😂 I really had a lovely birth and my recovery wasn’t any worse than an awful period for a week. By week 8 I was on a plane to Australia to see family and got back into jogging xx
@Ellie was this a emergency c section or planned?
Totally not. I was shaking ++++++ but I was with it.
I was definitely out of it with my first (emergency section) My second was a planned section and I was totally with it the whole time. You do lose track of time some (start to finish was a little over an hour but it didn't feel that long)
Mine was planned and I was out of it, but that was only because I had general anesthesia. The spinal block didn't work because I had scar tissue buildup 🙁 I would have been awake and aware with the spinal block.
Mine was pre-planned and I wasn’t out of it at all. Hope all goes well for you and baby!
Emergency, he got stuck and heart rate dropped so had an epidural and a fentanyl drip, o had the shakes real bad but I remember everything for the parts I was awake 😂
My emergency c section I was out of it! My elective I was fully aware what was going on….even started a sweepstake as to what time the baby would be born 😂

I had a planned one in 2016, I had epidural and was fully aware what was going on during the procedure. It was a very calming environment and I even got to play my songs I added to a playlist to help me through it. All staff was very chatty and reassured me, I didn’t even know they had started until they said the baby was nearly out. We was singing and talking about what foods we like 🤣
I was definitely present, however felt really funny and was doing my best to stay awake as it was 6pm when I was being stitched back up and I’d not eaten all day.
My planned c section was fine only felt numb was totally aware of everything and can remember it all. I think it’s different if it’s an emergency one as you may have already had various drugs to help with the pain
I enjoyed every sec and remember everything, totally not out of it.
Mine was planned and wasn’t out of it, remember everything in theatre and in recovery but going to the ward is a bit of a blur but then remember everything afterwards maybe it was just adrenaline wearing off
I was totally with it, maybe different with emergencies as you may have had something beforehand? I agree most of it was a blur afterwards due to adrenaline etc.. but I knew exactly what was happening
I was completely out of it for my emergency c section and can hardly remember a thing but I had an elective 3 weeks ago and I was fully with it and understood everything and can recall what they were doing 😊
Mine was planned but technically an "emergency" as my waters broke a week before my section date. I was very aware of everything going on but couldn't feel any pain (didn't even know they were inside until they said "you're going to feel pressure, that's them getting the baby out". Before that i spent most of it chatting to the anaesthetist and my husband (I'm a nervous talker 🤣)
I had emergency and after being in labour 42 hours, not eaten in over 24 hours and a lot of gas and air I was pretty out of it when I went into theatre and I was shaking so much they had to give me something to calm me down which pretty much knocked me out for 12 hours, I didn’t hold my baby until the following day. However, everyone I know that has had a planned c section has had an amazing experience. You don’t have the days of labour leading up to it and can better rested beforehand and it is a calmer environment
Emergency c-section after 3 days in labour - absolutely out of it. And I was for weeks. I dont remember much at all. My scheduled section - no way. I remember everything. It was a lovely experience, total night and day from my first.
I wasn't out of it. I think it depends on your anesthesiologist and how much drugs they give you and how you're body handles it. I was pretty much aware, just a little nauseous which they added drugs to my iv line to counteract it.
