I haven’t because people told me not to, but what does everyone else think?

I never did. My girls 15 months and i’ve just started using wax melts again rather than candles x

This may be a stupid question... first time pregnancy. But why is lighting candles with a newborn a no? 😳

@Chloe as long as you use candles that don’t have parrafin wax in them it should be fine at your discretion but it’s to do with the chemicals that can be released whilst they’re being burnt. Wax melts can give off the same chemicals too x

I’ve always got Yankee candles going 😑

Ooh okay, that makes sense! Thank you for explaining. Wow not knowing something like that makes me feel out of my depth haha x

@Ellie me too 🤣

@Steph ooopsy 😂

Candles can contain a lot of potentially harmful chemicals which can irritate the respiratory system and artificial fragrances have been linked to endocrine disruption. If you want to burn candles around little ones look for unscented ones made from soy or coconut wax

cinnamon vanilla spice😽😽

@Jessica whats the point of the candle if its unscented🤣🤣

I buy soy wax flakes and essential oils and make my own wax melts and candles, and sometimes I use the oils in my diffuser

I had no idea this was a concern, and I definitely lit scented candles when my now four year old was small. For what it's worth, she's completely fine, no asthma or other lung issues. Not that I'm recommending not following recommendations, just saying it's probably nothing to stress about if you have been lighting them.

I switched to coconut wax! Much less toxic to burn than soy candles. It’s usually just essential oils in them.

What about using perfumes?

@Prabhjot lots of chemicals in most perfumes too, have you heard of the Yuka app? You can scan the barcode of your cosmetics and toiletries and it gives you info on the safety of their ingredients
