PRM

I just want to post to see if other people had the same experience at the princess royal maternity as I did My waters broke at 6:30am (no contractions) so I had to go in, got there maybe like 8/8:30 and they checked me over and cause my contractions by that point were mild and not regular they were sending me home so we went downstairs to wait for my sister to pick us up and I had like 5 in the space of 25 mins so we were like let’s head back up so they said we were still fine to go or we could stay but it was our choice cause I would’ve just been paranoid the whole time if we went home. So they moved us and we were in the ward with me having contractions probably about 7/8 hours and not once did anyone pop their head in to check on me?! The only time they checked how dilated I was or how I was doing was if my partner went out and asked them to! Is this normal??? Like by the end I was literally shouting in pain and still nobody checked… I almost ended up having baby on the toilet in the room😬 I was having a contraction while on the toilet and could literally feel my baby’s head, I was 10cm (the last time I asked them to check I was 6cm which was hours before) surely they should check more regularly? I’d picked PRM cause I’d heard good things and I feel like that was not my experience at all. I ended up giving birth at 6:01pm and delivered my placenta about 7pm, shift change was at 7:30pm so they said there was no point starting to stitch me up as they wouldn’t be able to finish so they put gauze covered in disinfected and stuck them in me sort of like a tampon, I don’t think they started stitching until about 9pm, by the time I got out of the room it was midnight and my partner had been with our LB in special care as he had low oxygen so I’d been alone for like 4/5hours knowing my LB was unwell and not with him. Then to top it off, I was in there for 4 days and then back home for 1 day and had to go back through for phototherapy so was there another 2 days and again idk if it’s just me but I found some of the nurses were just so horrid and you could tell they just didn’t enjoy it, like one of them every single time she came in the room would stand and have a go saying I needed to feed him more just because he would suck her finger if she’s stuck it in his mouth when he was upset even tho id been feeding him for over an hour. On top of that we’d always be waiting for a paediatrician, the amount of times they’d say they’d come see us in the next hour or so and then we’d be waiting for like 8 hours was so insanely frustrating especially when we’d went for the phototherapy as we could’ve went home like 12 hours earlier if they hadn’t taken so long and I was losing my mind being in hospital that long. Don’t get me wrong I loved the midwives on the ward and they were so good when my LB couldn’t breathe but I feel like everything else just thinking about it actually quite upsets me.

I went to the hospital because my water broke but no contractions and they told me I could go home and I was ok fine by me. They said "if you want" you can have a scan before you go. What does it even mean if I want??? Is it needed? Should you not know if I need it or not??? And I said "oh well, since I'm here let's get this scan" they do the scan and surprise surprise baby was not in position, he was on the side and the doctors said we need to prepare you for emergency C-section as there's no water anymore and an arm could go out first because of the position. THEY WERE SENDING ME HOME WITHOUT A SCAN. I was so raging. The midwives were very nice in the ward but omg the doctors downstairs such incompetence. What if I didn't ask for the scan? Baby could have died or lost a limb 🤬

That sounds like a really horrible experience, I'm so sorry you went through this. I had a good experience at the PRM and I know others who did too, but equally others who also had an awful time. I think you can ask for a debrief to go through what happened to you and how they let you down

I’m so sorry that happened that sounds awful, I had a relatively good experience with everything in the PRM, my birth was very complicated but the way they handled it was amazing and our induction took about a week and I was checked regularly in the ward leading up to going into labor, and was checked even more after baby was born (due to complications) my daughter got rushed to the NICU and I wasn’t allowed to see her again due to complications, but one of the midwives worked around it so I could see her for 10 minutes she was amazing, I have been told I’ll be needing to get extra checks ect for my next pregnancy and will choose PRM again from how I was treated and my daughter was treated there xx

Hi there - sorry to hear about your experience - that’s awful. were you in wd 68?
