What’s one thing you’d say to early post partum you if you could go back?

As we’re coming up to a year post partum, I was wondering what advice people would give to themselves if they could go back to the early days? Mine would be ‘everything is a phase’

Stop doing everything yourself and accept the help and trust your instincts x

You dont need to be busy all the time! Enjoy the down time and don’t feel guilty x

I spoilt the first few months by getting sucked in to about all the talk about feeding/rocking to sleep/contact naps being bad and self settling, Id have told myself to relax and stay off the bloody internet ( but wouldn't have listened 🤣)

She will start sleeping 12 hours a night from 3 months just hold on😂🫠

@Julia ooh that’s a good one! especially the instincts. I doubted mine so much at the start.

@N L so true!! think I still need to work on this one 😅

@Sarah me too! I wish I hadn’t listened to people telling me not to contact nap and just enjoyed the cuddles.

@Courtney lucky you! I’m still not there yet 🫠

Everything is a phase is so true and was told this by my SIL early on but it’s so hard to forget that. Also, everything is a phase (even the good stuff) is my addition to it! I’d tell myself to enjoy those 30 minute nursing sessions, enjoy the time to sit and snuggle and embrace all the contact naps. They really don’t last forever. Never do any job/task during a nap that can be done when they’re awake!

@Tara That is something I tell myself till now as I still seek to doubt myself quite often x

He will get through the nights soon which he did from 6/7weeks slept through since. Id tell myself also dont try to please people to much and not to feel awkward when you want your baby back

This will pass

Don’t hold the baby 24/7 as now she won’t sleep anywhere but with me.

Be cautious with the Peanut app - it can be amazing for advice and feeling like you’re not alone, but people will share experiences that you can only dream of and it’ll make you feel crap.

Not all advice is for the masses. Trust yourself (instinct) more when it comes to your baby.

What you're feeling is normal and you're strong enough to get through it.
