A midwife told me like half an hour ago that the semen can help with labour and your cervix 😂😂
@Jess yeah! but u know how they say a woman’s V is elastic ?? I just feel like frequent penetration will help to expand it thus reducing tear during delivery🤷🏽♀️
@Amie 😂😂 yl in labour with my first my gyn and midwife actually advised me to go have sex with partner to fasten labour and for the semen to soften my cervix..😂😂
@Cheche hahaha
Yes it’s thought that semen contains super high levels of prostaglandin which help soften the cervix but people have given birth before without doing that if that’s what your trying to ask…
@Cheche it can help soften the cervix as others have said and ‘strengthen’ your vaginal walls but there’s no evidence that it helps with dilation or stretching. Perineal massage might be worth looking into?
So I’m in the same boat. I’ve not been able to have sex and ya girl is struggling 😂 I think mine is all psychological but I’m worried of tearing and having a delayed labour because I’m not able to have sex!😂
With both my pregnancies my partner and I have not had sex. This is for a number of reasons but with my son my body was naturally going into labour 8 days early without the use of semen so please do not put the pressure on yourself or your partner if you’re not there.
No, sex doesn’t play a vital role. Sex *can* help bring on labour, but it’s not important. With my first we were having sex twice a day at the end to try and bring on labour (as well as trying every other method known to man) and it didn’t do a thing! Eventually got induced at 41+6, even giving me every hormone induction failed, never got past 1cm after 26 hours of labour and ended with an emergency C-section. I’ve never heard that it helps with stretching at all.
@Jessica that’s my fear too😂
@Amy thank you so much..this has actually made me feel better
@Rebecca oh!!! Thank you so much
Having sex can help induce labour due to the heightened oxytocin, but it’s not something that really plays a vital role - more that it’s an easy way to feel good and relax! For actual delivery, they recommend raspberry leaf tea for softening the cervix, but really it’s about being as calm and relaxed in your space as possible. Maybe hypnobirthing would be worth a try? X
