Running in pregnancy

Looking for some advice I started running after having my first baby 2 years ago and have been running up until I was about 5 weeks this time round but the sickness and generally feeling awful absolutely floored me and haven’t run since. I’m nearly 15 weeks and feel like I could muster a run but everything I read online says that it’s okay to continue running if you were physically fit before getting pregnant. I’m not physically fit now following a 10 week break but was at half marathon distance in June and regular 5-10ks weekly. Any advice around running or easing back in? Research backs a healthy active pregnancy showing better outcomes for mum and baby post birth so I’m keen to get moving knowing I won’t be able to run much into second trimester! I’m thinking strictly following couch to 5k and not doing more than I’m told to?

I don’t have the answer to this but I’m in almost an identical situation. I’m 12 weeks and don’t think I could run just yet but would like to in my second trimester if it’s safe!

I’m sorry I too have no advice to give on this but I’m really curious too! I’m 16 weeks and feeling able to exercise again after months of hospitalisation due to sickness so I’m unsure if it’s safe for me to exercise and run again

Deffo just get out there, go at avsteady pace like conversational. I am 17 weeks and havent ran since pregnany my midwife has encouraged me to get back out there. My birth with my 2nd who is just turned 2 was amazing so was my recovery and i think its because i kept fit (steady runs, yoga snd swimming) This pregnancy has floored me I've had so many problems so been scared to do anything. But for my own sanity i need to move abit more so going to try a power walk/jog and starting pregnancy yoga next week. X

I feel you all! It’s so scary to think like am I going to harm the baby?? But I also know that that’s ridiculous and that it won’t harm the baby? All the medics and midwife’s are all fine with it. I might give it a go, realllllllly slow! Let me know how yous get on!

I'm 13+4 and have just restarted (I booked a Christmas 10k prepregnancy 🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️) and I'm doing 5 minute jog/ 2 minute walk intervals- it's slower than I need but safest for baby. Start with a parkrun - slow please!

I’m not a medical professional, so this is purely based on what I’ve read. If you were running before then your body is used to it, whether you’ve taken a few weeks break or not. I think the advice is for people who haven’t ran and wanted to now start running which is a no go. I agree with Jodie, just go at a slow pace, maybe do like 1-2km see how you feel. Don’t run for as long or as fast as you usually do and stick to flatter even ground to avoid falling etc. I was a keen runner, did a 10km race at 6 weeks pregnant then felt too rubbish to run regularly for a good few weeks after that. I’m 13 weeks now and only just starting to run more again, I just take it easy and don’t put pressure on myself. Listen to your body and enjoy what you used to x
