Baby prefers one side to the other??

Hi my son is 7 weeks old and since he was born I’ve noticed he prefers his right side to his left to lay his head on. When he’s sleeping playing or even looking around he always chooses his right side. I’ve tried to encourage him to turn his head to the left side and he can do it but he doesn’t like to lay it down flat to the left but he can do it. I was wondering if it’s normal for babies to have such a preference or if there’s something wrong I need to get him checked out about

I think it's very common - my little boy always lays with his head to the left but like yours can follow things and move it to the right. We started to notice he had a very slight flathead on his left side so have taken him to an osteopath who has suggested a couple of sessions. I think if they can face the other way it's not too bad. My friends little one couldn't and she didn't realise and left it very late and now he has a very flat head.

@Alessandra thank you!! He can turn it so I don’t think there’s anything stopping him ex. his neck muscles but I just worry incase he does get a flat head as he hardly ever turns left!! I obviously try turn it when doing okay time ect but it still worries me lol xx

Highly recommend osteopath visits! After two sessions, my little one now comfortably sleeps in both directions. She had very minor muscle tension which is very common after birth as they’re cooped up in there. And we want to be proactive to avoid flat head

I second @Polina we’ve been to the osteopath today for this very reason. Our little girl loves going 😊
