Boy mom here! Also have two younger brothers who I helped raise! We started as early as 2/3! They’re boys they will pee outside and want to pee whenever and where ever they can! Honestly, to help them learn to stand and pee, we let them pee outside. We had the backyard space and a fence where we could let them be free😂😂 also height matters!!! if your child is shorter, you will wanna wait a little bit longer until they can stay and pee into the big toilet rather than their own training toilet! This will help with aim when they’re older😂
At the nursery when I work, the vast majority pees while sitting down. A few 4 and 5 years old pee standing up
Never?? Why would you? They soon enough figure it out on their own and then they always want to pee on trees and shit!😆 teach sitting down. It’s all they need. Save your bathrooms from the mess.
I personally haven't encouraged my son to stand he will work it out on his own until then I enjoy my bathroom not smelling like urine 🤣
My boys started from the very begining to wee standing, they were around age of 3 🙂 maybe you have brother, grandad or some close family male that can have a talk about that with him 🙂
Throw some Cheerios or similar cereal in the bowl and have him aim to hit them like it’s a game! That’s how I helped teach my cousins to stand 🤣
Mine just started doing it on his own. Sometimes he uses his potty and other times he just lifts the lids and goes in the big toilet. It was really funny the first time I saw him do it
He recently turned 4, so he started doing it maybe 4-5 months ago. It’s funny to see him on his tip toes trying to aim lol.
Stupid response on my end but put cheerios in the toilet and use that as the target. You could (if you have a private backyard and are comfortable) have them pee in the woods. My eldest use to love this
We started early because of lots of outside time and hikes. My husband insisted he do it in the house also because that's what guys do. 🙄😒 Big mess. As someone said, wait for the big toilet. In the little potty there is soooo much back splash or they tend to hit that front piece and it's just a mess. Mine now at 2.5 will pee in that urinal someone posted or the toilet with a step stool. Teach him to hold it and aim rather than use his whole body. My mom used Cheerios for my brother. My kid didn't need any props and has good aim. Mostly because me made games out of peeing on thing outside.
We were going to the toilet with our son to show him, so he saw his dad peeing standing and started doing it naturally around 3yo. Now he prefers to stand, even if I prefer him to sit to be sure we don't miss a poo too, especially in the morning . He doesn't use the potty anymore, he is almost 4
I won't teach him to stand up while peeing. Any doctor would say it's actually not healthy. He can pee sitted at home and he will pee standing up whenever he wants when we are outdoor.
My son started from the get go, I guess he saw his dad do it all the time so that’s what he did. He was out of nappies at 2y 9 months and he’s never sat down for a wee. First time boy mum and didn’t even consider him doing sit down wees 😅
To be honest I have never taught my some to pee one way or another. He sometimes sits and sometimes stands he just seemed to pick it up on his own haha

My son is 3 4 in April he stands to pee most of the time. I found it easier for him he's juts the right height for the toilet and more discrete when we are out and about I just tough him to hold it over the edge of the toilet and pee. He preferred the toilet to potty so maybe that's why I found it easier x
My son is 3.5, we give him the option to sit or stand but he always chooses to sit. If we are ever out and about and he needs a wee outside he will stand up no problem, I just tell him to lift his willy and aim away from his feet, never had an issue luckily lol x
My son has done it on and off from 2 (nearly 3) Not sure why. He just wanted to copy dad. It has resulted in some face palm moments
@Aurélie there is no evidence it is unhealthy. 🙂
My boy has always stood to pee and has good aim at 3 yo. Also very helpful when he is out and about, he doesn't have to seat in unclean toilet.
3 year old and stands to wee if he wants with no issues
His dad taught him early on and he been standing to pee since about 2 1/2-3 y/o
@Santa yes there is. Urologist agree that the standing position can enlarge prostates, cause UTI’s because it doesn’t provide an ample position to fully empty the bladder. A quick google search, along with a deeper dive, will back this.
@Meghan I would like to see some research where you got it as my search shows there is no harm unless you have UTI 🙂
We always had our son sit down but eventually after seeing other boys pee standing up at daycare he wanted to stand too. He never watched his dad pee either so we didn’t actually teach him to stand. I still encourage him to sit when I can since it’s better for his health AND my floors lol also at daycare they begin potty training a little after they enter the 2 year old room and finished by the time they enter the 3 year old room (preschool) so I just went with their schedule since I was already working there and saw it in action
The day we started potty training he was shown how to pee sitting on the potty and pee standing in the yard. Just before 3yo my parents were watching them for a few days and my dad showed him how to stand at the toilet. You have to help him steady himself on the stool but he does fine lol I've cleaned just as many dribbles from him standing as I have from him coughing while peeing sitting down 😂
Around 2.5 years for 'wild wees' outside only. He uses the toilet at home or public toilets but if we are out on a walk somewhere where there are no toilets available we have encouraged him that it's ok to wee and he will do this standing up. We gave him some tips on how to do it but he mostly just figured it out himself. He also wees standing up in the shower/ bath (I didn't encourage him to wee in the bath but because I said he could wee in the shower he thinks it's the same 🤦). He seems happy to sit down and wee on the toilet and id rather him continue to do that for now so won't be encouraging him to stand to wee in the toilet anytime soon.
My sisters started around 2 but my older nephews helped my younger nephews get the hang of it quicker x
Imma let my hubby do the potty training for that so he can learn from a man who stands
My son is 2, he’ll be 3 in February. He’s been potty trained for about 6 months and we are just now starting to transition to standing. I’m a single mom as well

Once my son learned to go potty he one day just decided to stand and go.

My son is almost 4 and been trained for 1.5years. Hes just started showing interesting in standing through seeing his dad pee standing. He gives it a go but not every time
My son was probably at least 5 before he had any interest in standing
