Calpol at nursery then not allowed in the next day

Depends if they still have a temp the following day. If they still have a temp and need calpol to keep it controlled then they shouldn’t be at nursery to begin with and you should be seeking advice as to what’s causing a consistent temp. We can sign calpol in at my nursery (I also work there so see both sides to this) but only if it’s to aid for pain etc, not for a temp. We can give adhoc for temp and have a nursery bottle to use (with consent) in emergencies and if temps don’t come down after, we call for them to be collected. If a child needs to be topped up with calpol to keep a fever down, then they shouldn’t be at nursery. We don’t say they can’t come in after having calpol but if at drop off we ask if they’ve had it this morning and you say yes (or say no and they end up with a temp when it does wear off) then we would say they cannot come in. This is purely to safeguard the other children and also us staff as everything that they bring in, we too all end up with 😂. Xx

They have said because she had to have calpol today for a temp which she didn't have when I dropped her she can't go in tomorrow even if she's well. I understand certain policies but some of them make it very difficult for mothers when the kid isn't ill yet can't go to nursery.

@Becky oh that’s strange. If she hasn’t got a temp overnight or tomorrow then I don’t understand why they won’t let you drop her off. If she’s otherwise well, there’s no reason to stay home. Double check the policies on their website/in your registration pack (whatever they use) to see what they say and you can argue it if nothing in there. She might be fine now because of the calpol she’s had so you can’t really gauge it until after about 6 hours from dose administered. I’d perhaps call to speak to the manager too and ask that if tomorrow she’s fine and doesn’t need more calpol tonight or tomorrow, then why can’t she attend? If she’s not unwell then she should be able to go in. I completely get what you mean as I’m a single working mum so any illness or nursery absence also means I have to take the time off, which makes my life ridiculously hard so I know what you mean. Xx

Whaaat 😭 I honestly couldn’t survive with some of the nursery policies I see on here!!

My LO’s nursery is the same. If sent home with a temp they’re unable to go in the next day. I once gave my LG medicine for teething, showing all classic signs, told them at nursery oh she’s had calpol for her teeth she’s grumpy, biting her fingers, bright red cheeks etc but its just teething. They sent her home because she’d had calpol x

We have to wait 24hrs after the temperature comes down before they are allowed back. It’s a total nightmare isn’t it 😭😭😭

Yep, one of the first nurseries I sent my son to, I gave give him calpol in the morning before drop off as he had fallen and cut his tongue the day before and was still sore. They refused to take him in and I tried to tell them that he had no temperature but calpol was given just to take the edge off the pain he was experiencing as he wouldn’t eat otherwise 😅😅
