Planned C-section

Hi all, just wanted some advice. I know that midwife/doctors are very against planned c sections and will convince you to go for the natural birth option and because of this they don’t book you in until much later! I have a consultant telephone appointment soon where apparently they go through risks with me etc. Is there anything I can do to ensure that I get given a date and that this won’t be last minute (this already caused me anxiety!)? Is there anything you’ve done to ensure that it was booked in? When was the earliest you could book it in?

Hi there DM me I was in the same position xxx

I asked for an elective c-section around 34 or 36 weeks. They did ask my reason why and went over the risks but no one tried to convince me out of it. I got my C-section date I believe it was at 37 weeks and it was booked for 40+2 weeks. Forgot to add that I received more judgement from other mothers for choosing a C-section without medical reasoning

I'm opting for a c-section this time due to complications after my last birth. I have an appointment at 36 weeks to book it in. Quite last minute but I was told it couldn't be done any earlier xx

I don't think they are very against planned c sections, in my experience they almost find any excuse to book you an induction or section. In terms of booking in, it varies massively depending on your local hospital. At mine I had an appointment at 38 weeks and my section was booked for a week later at exactly 39 weeks.

I've got my appointment to book my C-section at 31 weeks we've known since early on I would be having a planned C-section as its due to complications in my last pregnancy. I was told that there was no point having the appointment before then as that is when they will get the diary and available dates to be able to book me in.

I think it’s entirely up to your midwife when they book your appt ? At my first visit my midwife got me an appt to get booked in, I’ll be approx 15 weeks during the appt.

I was told I need a c-section very early on due to medical issues I already have and was told that sometimes they won’t give me a date until a week before even though if I went into labour it would be an emergency. I think every hospital is different x

I’ve never faced any pushback, in fact my surgeon and my midwife both chose electives for themselves. I’m about to have my second. I planned my speech of what to say and she said “you don’t have to convince me of anything, just listen to the risks and understand them”. It’s sad that they push the risks of sections but not the risks of vaginal/instrumental births too. I got my date for baby 1 at 32 weeks, I got my date for baby 2 at 24 weeks. Bear in mind though, all trusts are different and some won’t have dates till later as they don’t have that staff rota or theatre scheduling.

I told them I wanted a C-section at my booking appointment which they were fine with. Had my Birth Choices appointment with a consultant midwife at 22 weeks, she was the only one that really pushed to have a natural birth but I declined and said I wanted a C-section so she did the paperwork. They wanted me to do a second Birth Choices appointment to talk about it again but I declined the appointment saying I’d already been told everything and said all I have to say. Then I had an appointment with my OB consultant who signed off on the C-section at 24 weeks. Next appointment at 32 weeks they booked the date for me (for 39 weeks). I’m 38 weeks tomorrow and I had my pre-op today. Have my blood tests on the 26th and section on the 28th when I’ll be exactly 39 weeks. It really varies hospital to hospital. Mine book the date at 32 weeks, other hospitals don’t let people know until days before! It really varies place to place.
