Ready for potty training

I’ve seen a few posts about potty’s and wondered how you know when your little one’s ready ? My daughter doesn’t say any words yet but she has a good understanding of what’s going on. Also do you use the pull up pants or nappy ?

We've been using pull ups for months now. We've been signing toilet and potty and each nappy change we'll put her on the toilet. She's managed to wee and poo in the toilet but we are just doing it so she gets used to it for when she's ready to ask to use it.

Mine started asking to use the toilet when I did about 3 weeks ago which caught me off guard, but I had all the stuff ready already for the most part because I buy everything on sale, but switched to pull ups at this point. We'd already read some potty training books to her because she seemed interested in the toilet, and I figured we'd start in the new year. Nah, she decided she wants to do it now. She now only really uses the potty and is dry otherwise except overnight but I haven't dared risk without nappies during the day lol. My plan was to introduce the concept periodically and see if she took an interest. I did not expect that to be now. Some kids don't show readiness signs as such, and you just need to take the plunge to start introducing the skills. I find the ERIC bladder and bowel charity has some really great advice that I've been following!

It really depends on you and your child! Some people prefer to wait for signs of readiness which tend to show up anywhere from 2 on wards (some earlier of course, but information is now moving mroe towards these signs not reallt existing as such). We went for a lazy EC approach and she knows what a potty is for, signs for potty and signs for nappy when she's about to poo she jsut hasn't quite grasped when she needs a wee yet! Highly recommened looking at ERIC information, I believe the NHS are also changing their advice to follow them. I'd say go for it, they dont learn what they're not exposed to! Never any harm in getting them used to a potty x We also use pull ups anyway but if you're thinking of using a potty defunitley make the switch, my little one now pulls hers down in excitement for the potty 🤣🤣

I sit my daughter on the potty through the day but she can say potty and she tells us if she’s pooed. When I first started her she was showing interest to me on the toilet and was looking in and clapping if she could hear me pee. To start of with I sat her on the potty while her bath was running just to get her used to it, now she will ask but doesn’t always do anything and we still use nappies as it still needs changing and saves taking her clothes off
