Are you still exclusively breastfeeding?

Just wondering how many are still exclusively breastfeeding as I saw a stat that suggests only 1% of U.K. babies are exclusively breastfed at 6 months but it was an old study so wondering what that looks like in this group :)!

Exclusively pumping but still going after 6 months! 💗

Ebf and aiming to do a year (same as first baby) x

This was my aim but she wasn't getting sufficient milk due to missed tongue tie so I'm combi feeding. Expressed and formula

Pumping and formula. Would just be pumping but I have twins

That stat is inaccurate (as you can see from these results) because it counted any baby who had started solids, taken expressed milk or ever had a single bottle as no longer exclusively breastfed. I think a lot of mums would still consider their baby to be exclusively breastfed once they start solids or if they occasionally have pumped milk, especially by 6 months!

@Hattie I never knew this, I always thought 1% was ridiculously low! Thank you for sharing ❤️

Yes they haven’t run the survey for a long time now either so not sure how accurate it is anymore. I’m still EBF and tandem feeding with my nearly 3yo, but did introduce cow’s milk to her after she turned 1.

@Izzy I know I see this stat used all the time and it never made sense to me so I looked into it!

Yes that stat is talking EXCLUSIVELY breastfeeding so doesn't include those that pump or combi feed. It's also 15 years out of date! Current stats are now trying to be gathered and have improved for up to 6 weeks, but I think that's as far as the latest ones go. I am still breastfeeding my 3 year old, he's never had milk in another form but obviously eats solids. And my 5.5 month old is also ebf, and now starting solids

Nearly six months and EBF, I don't pump. Six bouts of mastistis and still going strong. Not easy but I'm determined to get to a year.

@Hattie yes this makes sense. I would definitely consider a baby to be exclusively breastfed when they are being weaned if they were only having breastmilk not formula alongside it. Pumping too x

@Charlotte yes I wouldn’t consider combi feeding to be exclusive breastfeeding but I would consider pumping to be. Very interesting and thanks for the information. Would be very interested to see what the stats are like now! That’s amazing that you’ve been able to go strong for 3 years and with two children, I take my hat off to you! X

Started combi feeding and switched to EBF when she was a few weeks old and I felt better. Hopefully it will last until she decides she doesn't want it anymore 🥰 I absolutely adore these moments with her even though I am very often engorged and in pain 😂

I EBF my first baby to 18 months and hoping to do the same this time too 🙏
