Inductions

If I make it to my induction it will be due to my age. I’m 38 and the chance of a stillborn after 40 weeks at my age significantly increases. That would be the reason I have one.

I am choosing to be induced electively- My due date is December 31st. We’re trying to keep it within the year. She’s also a bit bigger so we’re monitoring that as well. My first was also induced at 37.5/38(?) weeks but that was due to a partial amniotic fluid leak that I was unaware of for a bit and they weren’t sure how baby was doing because it had been a bit. My body knows what induction feels like, so I’m okay with being induced. However, will I get the epidural sooner? Yeah. Probably. But! All that to say, I’d be getting induced around 39 weeks. Given my track record, she could try to come early, so we’ll see. I hope that helps!😅💕

For me it's gestational diabetes. I'm still not thrilled about it but at this point i just wanna see my baby so it is what it is 😂

I’m choosing to be induced because my due date is Christmas Eve and want to make sure my provider can deliver him and we also have hit the Out of Pocket Max on our insurance so we won’t have to pay much for the hospital stay if he’s here before the end of the year.

I have very similar reasons to agree to induction: - deductible fully met this year - age - due date is dec 22 and i dont want to be spending xmas eve at the hospital - no stress dealing with labor and rushing to the L&D not knowing if you are dilated enough only to be sent home But…. Sadly a lot of inductions, i am hearing end up in an emergency c section due to unproductive labor…(20-30%) which is whopping figure for me…. I want to stay away from c section due to medical reasons…

@Katie I feel this on a spiritual level. This is literally our main reason for getting induced electively- #NYEbaby 😅

Has anyone here had a successful and nonstressful induction before?

My due date is Jan 4th and the plan is to induce week 39, so right after Christmas. I’m 45, an IVF patient, and I have gestational diabetes. I have been told going past 39 weeks isn’t worth the risk.

I had 2 inductions, first labour was 5 hours in total, 2nd labour was 11 hours in total. Both times they broke my waters and had oxytocin drips. No pain relief .

@Libby did they have to insert the foley ball?

I would decline induction unless absolutely medically necessary… they have higher rates of going wrong and turning into emergency cesareans

@Katia my first 3 were elective inductions because I made it to 40 weeks and I didn’t want to go over because I was afraid something would happen to my babies. They were all 3 long, my first being 36 hours from start to finish, my second was 28 hours and my 3rd was 23.5 hours. They all went very smooth, I am hoping to go into labor on my own this time but if not I will gladly be induced again. I saw you ask about the foley bulb, I’ve heard it is pretty painful so I talked to my doctor about it ahead of time and he said we could try cytotec instead which I needed with my 3rd.

My first baby I was induced due to GD but I didn’t even get fully through the induction before he came. I was diet controlled so they let me go to 39+6, just didn’t want me going over my due date since there’s risk. I get to the hospital the night before my scheduled induction to start Cervidil since I wasn’t ripening. They did Cervidil at 5:30pm (which isn’t supposed to start labor) and my water broke in the hospital at 1am and I was pushing by 6:30am. I was supposed to get Pitocin to start my induction at 7am so I didn’t need to get it lol. I think my body was just ready. My OB is offering elective induction this time to me and I’m considering to schedule it for 40 weeks just because I like to have a plan. It was nice checking into the hospital like a hotel and not feeling rushed and chaotic to get everything ready and to the hospital through contractions…But I haven’t decided yet.

I was induced with my first and I’m getting an induction with this one! First baby: I was 41+1 and had done ABSOLUTELY EVERYTHING you can imagine to go into labor naturally, but home boy was cozy and didn’t want to go anywhere. I was very worried about going into 42 weeks so we had an induction. My induction was incredible, I had a fantastic experience! Saw you ask about the dreaded folley balloon lol so I had heard horror stories of that and I refused it, so when I got to the hospital they wanted to give me cytotec and insert the balloon, I refused the balloon and asked to try just cytotec and see how my body would respond. I had 2 doses 4 hours apart and that got my labor started. Held off on epidural until 4cm and then relax the rest of labor, my water broke naturally and then when the doctor did the final check to when baby boy was born was less then 15 min, most of that time was the doctors and nurses getting ready and 3/4 pushes baby boy was out! +

This time I have a 15 month old running around, and my body is so so so much more uncomfortable I’m ready to be done with it, so me and my doctor agreed on a 39w elective induction and I’m hoping for just as great of an experience ☺️ sorry this was a LOT, just wanted to share my experience
