Can partners stay at hospital

My oldest child had an infection when born as well as jaundice we stayed in hospital for 5 days in a side room where my husband could stay with us overnight. However with our new baby I’m completely unsure if husbands/partners can stay overnight. If my labour is mid day for instance and we get kept in overnight is it based on the hospital or trust you give birth in if husbands can stay and do some hospitals not allow it at all ? I really don’t like the idea of staying on a busy ward alone without help, after just giving birth.

Varies from trust to trust I believe and from what I've seen people posting.

Varies unfortunately! You might be able to find out online (a lot have published information about visitors etc) or you could ask your midwife directly? I think usually it’s standard that partners can’t stay on a recovery ward - or least aren’t encouraged to - but it might be different depending on individual circumstances x

It varies hospital to hospital so it’s impossible to say without asking them. I live between 2 hospitals, it was the deciding factor for me as one of them only allows partners to stay on the labour ward but once baby is born and you’re put on the postnatal ward they’re only allowed between 2-8pm. The other your partner can stay for your duration in hospital, as I’m having a C-section I’d rather have that option if I need help so I chose that one.

Like others said, ask your trust. My husband stayed for 2 nights, they even made him a pull out chair bed which was lovely.

I was alone on a ward for 4 days with my son. As he had an infection. My husband had to leave at 8pm and couldn't come in until 9 the next morning. This was post csection with my first. They did have some private rooms where he could stay but they were full. X

It does vary I know with the hospital I am going to deliver at my partner is allowed to stay with me the entire time I am there and doesn't have to leave but I am not sure on other trusts
