Nursery nappy changes…

Looking for advice as im starting to panic… I feel so awful that i missed this and never checked it until now! My LB is 10 months old and started nursery a month ago now for 3 days a week. When we viewed this nursery earlier in the year it seemed amazing. Its brand new and seemed so unique and exciting. Today my baby was picked up by my parents who were kindly helping me as im stuck in bed ill! They mentioned when they got home that his nappy felt quite full. They took him upstairs for a bath and said when they undressed him he had dry poo stuck to him and his nappy was full…. Hes got such a bad nappy rash now…. He definitely didnt have one before he left in the morning as I changed him…. I was just lying in bed and thought maybe i should check the app the nursery provides updates on and see how his nappies were today. Hes therw 9-10 hours a day so i would expect 3-4 nappy changes. To my utter shock the app only showed the staff report one nappy change today at …. He goes to nursery at 7:30 so his nappy is changed at home between 6-7am and the first nappy changed wasnt logged until 3pm…. Was he left in a dirty nappy for that long? How long was he left in a dirty nappy filled with poo until my parents pixked him up at 6pm?…. Did he have to sit for 2-3 hours in his own poo? Ive gone through the app now as i feel so paranoid and see now that often times he is left without a nappy chnage for 6+ hours…. Either they will change him in the morning and not again till just before he goes home or they wont change him until 2-4pm and not again… I hope its just a mistake and that tge staff are just forgetting to log these nappy changes but its making me wonder how often they are changing my child…. Is there any rule about how often children should be changed? I cant imagine leaving him in a dirty nappy for 6+ hours. Feel so awful that i never picked up on this until today😢

I would mention it to them, both the nappy rash he’s come home with and that you’ve taken a look back and can see they leave it hours without a change regularly and hope this is enough to get them to sort it out. I would also ask what their policy is on nappy changing , I’d hope they have a rough rule for staff to check every X hours

It very well could be that the nursery staff are so busy making bottles, feeding, changing, playing, observations, comforting an upset child, setting up activities etc that they simply missed logging a nappy change on an app. However, that being said, I would also have strong concerns that poop was left on his bottom and he now has nappy rash. So in my opinion, I think it’s best you have a talk with the nursery staff and hopefully this will never happen again

I work in a nursery 8-6, we change 10;30am after snack then again 2:30am after nap time (if we smell poo then of course we change them asap!) or if we notice there nappy is looking/ feeling full. I hope they have just forgot to log this (we don’t actually log at our nursery) I would call the manager and speak to them then at least if they forget they will be told, however I would raise a concern as to why they also didn’t notice / change a poo.
