Hi, firstly congratulations! I had my little boy at Royal Derby in October after an induction. I was induced Wednesday, gave birth Saturday morning and discharged Sunday evening (I had to be placed on precautionary antibiotics for 24 hours). I was in a private room for my induction until I was moved to the labour ward when it was go time! Once he was here, I was moved to a ward with 4 beds (just myself and another lady were on the ward during that time). I struggled breastfeeding and they all took time to offer support, tips and manually helped me 😊 they did advice I express and give a bottle at one point which I think was a little premature as he was getting milk and I could have used a syringe instead of a bottle which would have saved the ongoing battle now 😂 he sometimes prefers the bottle to boob. We were checked regularly and they always had time if you had any questions etc.
I was in, in July this year. It was very busy, so I got forgotten about so much. We couldn’t leave for nearly 2 days as there wasn’t enough staff on to discharge us and get all checks done on baby. A few hours after birth we got moved to a shared ward/bay. No one made sure baby was in car seat safely. I had to go and find someone to make sure.
I’m unsure if they have a formula supply but I would advise taking in your own if you’re worried x
In regards to car seat safety, if you’re worried just ask someone to come check it for you 😊
Can’t really help with many of your questions but the car seat one - midwives are not trained in car seat safety so I would do some research into that before you give birth ☺️
The nurses were really helpful and informative about breastfeeding. Even physically helped me with babies latch. I was in a shared ward as I had to stay a few days. But when I was in labour it was a private room. Some midwives were lovely others not so much but if you know who you prefer ask for that particular person to come in for your checks. Also they didn’t put baby in the car seat but they did make sure we had one before leaving. Xx
Hey, I couldn’t end up breastfeeding due to health reasons. but I was induced at 37 weeks and the nurses were amazing, they came and checked on you every twenty mins or came straight away when you pressed your button. throughout the night they always told me the time they would be back to put the monitor back on me (make sure your go for a wee before you go on this) being induced I was in my own room, giving birth your in your own room. after birth you are in a shared area or there are some rooms people can be on their own, all depends. I was discharged two days later due to baby being born at 8:10pm. also take in pre made formula, incase you can’t breastfeed, don’t take bottles in with you. hope this helps for some of the questions and good luck!
