Elective Induction

For those planning to be electively induced, have you set your induction date yet? What are some of your thoughts or fears about the process? My OB will not schedule mine until week 36.

I’m choosing to be induced but the earliest my doc said I can do it is 7 days before my original due date. But also said I could not choose the exact day until I reach around 35/36 weeks. I honestly can’t wait to be induced. I don’t have much fear except for the labor pains because I’ve heard they’re more painful than going into labor naturally. But I’m so excited to meet my baby a week earlier

Mine will technically not be elective, I have chronic hypertension so I have to be induced. They won’t schedule mine either till 36w. I’m scared it’ll end in a c section tho. I’ve seen that happen to others

@jewlia I won’t be able to pick the exact day. She said it is dependent on the hospital’s calendar. I have the exact fears about the labor pains. I hope everything will go well for us both. Thanks for sharing. 😊

@Elizabeth Oh wow. So sorry to hear that. I hope a c section won’t be needed. I’ve been doing a lot of reading and that is also one of my fears. Hopefully everything will go well with your induction. 😊

I had an induction with my last pregnancy and it was great. Hoping to do it again this time, but I haven't talked with my doctor yet

Can anyone explain why they would choose to be induced?

@Eleni some people do it because they struggle mentally or physically while pregnant. For me personally I don’t enjoy being pregnant but I will only be induced when my doctor say it’s safe

Mine won't be elective, but my ob won't do it until 37-38 weeks unless I do in fact have cholestasis. Then he's talking about the end of December at 36 weeks.... I want to try to hold off until 38 weeks but that's because I don't want my son to share a birthday with my overly selfish mother. So if ob says 1/8/25 I'm going to ask him if it's possible to not do it that day...

@Eleni for me it's because of how quickly my labor progresses once my water breaks. I'd rather be induced than have my baby in the car.

I want to be induced but my doctors won't even begin to think about it until 36 weeks, three more weeks for me, and they told me they normally induce at 39 weeks no earlier.
