I feel you Hun, that first 24hrs wrecked my nipples, I have a set of medela nipple shields and wow they do the trick. The breastfeeding team said to not rely on them forever, just whilst your nipples heal. Those 2am & 4am feeds my 2 week old does NOT want to be put back in her Moses basket, I put my breast pads that have milk leaked on them, in the top of the basket, as the smell is comforting to her. My advice is to not rock them, controversial I know, but honestly they rely on that so much after you do it, that they won’t be happy back in their own bed. You got this 💪
This is my second baby and although painful it's been more manageable. What I've done differently is: Not used nipple cream Put silver cups over my nipples between feeds Ensured latch is good and unlatched if not sure. My little boy cluster fed the first 5 nights from 12am-6am solid. Last night was the first time I was able to feed him to sleep and put him in his crib. I used a swaddle and white noise. Swaddled him before feeding him and also pre warmed his bed with a hot water bottle
I feel you, my little girl is 2 weeks old tomorrow and she spent 5 hours on my boobs last night, she screamed blue murder everytime she came off, again she's gaining really well, plenty of wet and dirty nappies she just wants to feed almost continuously, i keep telling myself it doesn't last forever
@Chelsie my Lo does the same in the night, I like to use a nipple shield or listen to hear if she’s actually taking milk, or just using it to soothe her, if it’s to soothe her, I unlatch and use white noise instead, tends to do the trick most of the time. Xx
@Sian she's actively feeding until she's falling back asleep as soon as I move her she's wide awake and then wanting to feed again, she's building my supply tho and it won't last forever, iv been using a muslin in my bra to catch any extra milk so it smells like me to wrap her in tonight to hopefully help her settle so fingers crossed that helps. Fortunately she's had a fantastic latch from the get go so thankfully they arnt too sore x
Make sure you use a lot of nipple cream there are also some silver cups you can buy in amazon which you wear after feeds and will help you with the pain. Sorry I can't help much on combi feeding as I breastfed my first and doing the same this time. The not being able to out baby down is annoying but sooo normal. We take turns to hols baby /sleep if this happens. There are few things we try but I don't know how much it is luck or they work, like warming up the the cot before putting baby or waiting at least 15 to 20 mins before attempting to out his down, making sure he has been burped...
