How’s your exercise routine? I’ve been trying to get 500 move calories a day on my tracker, either with walking or combo with some gentle barre/pilates type exercises. I got this Barre Definition app for $99/yr and started that almost two weeks ago. I’m losing but it’s slow and steady, at my peak pregnancy weight I got to 202, from 148. Currently down to about 164. If you can do any exercise especially strengthening ones then you’ll be building up muscle which will help you burn more. Diet wise I’ve been doing a more low carb routine during the week and focus on getting enough protein.
If I knew then I what I know now, I wouldn’t try to manage my weight while breastfeeding for at least 6 months to a year. All the cravings will subside after some time and naturally you’ll just get back to normal appetite and etc.
I was stuck at the same weight for a few months after my baby was born, and I chalked it up to my potato famine genes since I didn't feel like I was eating THAT much. Then I ended up cutting all the allergens to try to help my baby and her tummy troubles. I've been eating just as much, but now I don't eat dairy, soy, wheat, eggs, corn, peanuts, or coconut. I've been losing about 1 to 1.5 pounds a week, and so far my supply is fine and I'm still eating a ton of food, just more veggies and non-processed options. Still plenty of carbs too, but my diet is much higher in protein and fiber now. So, all that to say - turns out it was less so my genes and more my diet choices. And now that I can't have most of my old cravings (torture at first I must admit), I don't really get cravings the same way I did before.
I know its easy to say don't be so hard on yourself but we're our worst enemies. I hardly gained any weight during my pregnancy and threw up everything i ate - all 40 weeks. Five months postpartum, breastfeeding and co sleeping - i put on almost 40 pounds. I felt like absolute crap. It's a process but since my baby started solids, I've started slowly weaning him off and onto formula during the day so I can take a breather or try workout. It doesnt always happen and it can be extremely frustrating. Take it one day at a time. Count your achievements. I've learnt to pace my meals and portion control. Get as many liquids as possible ( like smoothies and shakes). Its slow but its something...
