Diverticulitis or diverticulosis? Diverticulitis is an acute problem and you need a course of antibiotics and sometimes a colonoscopy…especially if you are getting recurrent infections. Diverticulosis is outpouchings in the GI tract. Many people live with this and it’s very common and it’s not a problem unless food gets stuck in there. The research used to say avoid nuts and seeds like popcorn, sunflower seeds, sesame seeds, fruit with seeds, and high roughage foods like lettuce, but the latest research that has come out states this isn’t needed anymore and eat whatever you want because whether you eat the seeds or not, you can still get diverticulitis flares. Up to you on how you want to manage!
@Allison thanks, Allison. I was eating all these things as I love them , especially popcorn, but they were causing issues.
@Kelly I meant diverticulosis. Thanks for noticing. Your message is useful. Lots to think about I think I'll probably settle with most things but in moderation. Will read up more, talk to my doctor and hear how others manage.
Same! I take colace daily and drink to a of water when I consume any of those things
No popcorn or whole beans. Leafy greens can be problematic
