Breastfeeding After Drinking

What rules do y’all follow when it comes to breastfeeding after having some drinks. I celebrated my 30th birthday last night and had quite a bit to drink. My baby went to sleep pretty late last night and is still asleep but I’m nervous to breastfeed him when he wakes up in a few minutes. I’m engorged because he is mostly sleeping through the night. I have heard that pumping and dumping is outdated and I really don’t want to waste all this breastmilk if possible. Also, I supplement with formula sometimes so he is used to drinking it if that’s what I need to do. I just want to make sure i’m not harming my baby so any advice?

I’ve always still breastfeed after 1-2 drinks, it’s a very diluted amount of alcohol that is getting passed through. If you are nervous you could pump and do a combo bottle of either frozen BM or formula?

I don’t pump and dump either butttt if I got drunk I would not use that milk after a few hours. Speaking from experience and a bad experience we had. So if you have the ability to use formula, you probably should.

If you’re worried about it you could give him formula this morning and pump. Then buy some alcohol test strips to test the milk!

I use breast milk testing strips! They are easy to use and over time you start to learn how long it takes for the alcohol to leave your system. If there is alcohol in your bloodstream, there is alcohol in your milk. So pumping and dumping won't do anything unless you just need relief from engorgement.

I use the test strips and give formula if it's positive.

Thanks for the advice ladies! I found the test strips at target.

2 hours per drink is usually the rule
