I've been doing it a week. We have our good days and bad days. Some days there are more accidents but its how they learn but understanding what happenes when they don't use the potty etc x
If they’re ready to be trained. Maybe 2/3 days. X
My daughter took a weekend to get that she needed to go to potty and let us know about it- I did not go out for a week just to help her establish the routine. We go to a lot of play areas so still go out in pull ups. When we first went out to play areas there was too much going on for her to tell me she needed to go so she did go in her pull up. She's got the hang of letting me know when she needs to go now. But again, is still in a pull up just in case we don't make it to the toilet on time (sometimes she tells me ahead of time and sometimes she needs to wee straight away). We make sure to call the pull up a travel nappy or sleepy nappy to help her know she's a big girl and wears big girl underwear otherwise. Only thing I would say- it's difficult when going on a long journey - my MIL lives an hour away &my little girl was in distress as she told us she needed a wee but we wouldn't be able to get to services in time. So, it's kind of on going training really.
Don’t mix using pull ups with pants depending on the situation - how can you expect them to understand that sometimes it’s ok to wee and poo yourself and other times it needs to be done on a potty. I never understand why some people do this 🤦🏻♀️ We went to the park and to a local coffee shop few days in. Day 2 he went straight to nursery in pants. The challenge was soft play day 7 as he just was having too much fun to leave to go to the potty so we did have an accident on route to the toilet. Read your child - it’s about you being confident as much as the toddler :) Yesterday was week 4 and we went out for a roast and he went before we left, before we ate and then again before we left. We have been out for many meals and been swimming it’s totally fine and easy to mange :)
What method/information source are you all using? Looking to start in a month or so and heard about an intensive method that is about 5/6 days and done but haven't looked further into it yet
We went out from the start. On day 2 we waited till he had a wee then popped to the park, we took a portable potty just in case but it was fine. We had max 3 accidents a day for the first few weeks then nothing afterwards. We started about 2 months ago. He isn't telling us every time he needs a wee yet but we tend to ask if it's been 2-3 hours and he'll pop to the potty and do a wee.
@Zara I don’t think there is method that fits all toddlers. Try the intensive method but don’t be discouraged if that 5-6 days turns into 5-6 weeks. It’s a big step for them to learn to potty so take your time
thanks so much for all your replies and help! we've had a few accidents today but she was determined to take her nappy off before we started training, so hoping it will get easier!
My girl has been doing potty at home but still in pulls up when we go out and to nursery. She would sometimes tell me if she needed potty but rarely!
