After birth milk for newborns

Hi ladies! 35 +1 here and no signs of colostrum which is fine because I read that most women do not produce it pre birth. So if you don’t produce it now, what do you actually feed your baby with once they are born? Do you go straight to formula then BF after your milk comes in? First time mom to be here so needs advice :)

You’re a bit too early still to try ‘harvesting’ colostrum, but in theory, your body starts making this from quite early on. Try hand expressing when you’re 37 weeks onwards perhaps, and try and get some to take with you if you’re at all anxious about not having any immediately?

Your body will keep producing colostrum until your baby is born. So those harvesting don’t need to be worried about a limited supply. Your milk comes in after you give birth :)

It takes a couple days for milk to come in after birth but colostrum should kick in once baby is born- you breastfeed them that!

Not everyone can get milk or colostrum straight away. I didn’t get anything with my son until he was 4 days old. So I went straight to pre made bottles which is advised to take in anyway. Kwndamil is great. Also try expressing from 37 weeks that helps to her hormones working for milk to produce x

You do not need any other milk. Don't worry about not having milk before birth, I've never had and fully breastfed my two children. Just put baby on the breast when they're born and colostrum will come! You do not need formula. The more you put the baby on the breast the more you will produce! ;)

I had no signs of any before the birth of my two daughters, but it was there once they arrived. The first couple of days, they didn't need anything else.

Second what a lot of the others said. I didn’t have anything but breastfed my baby from right after I gave birth. I didn’t feel confident there was anything at first but there definitely was! They then help stimulate your milk production. My actual milk came in at day 2 or 3 x

Babies are designed to obtain the colostrum by suckling, so you don't have to worry for a second about that - baby will get the milk xx

Just to add onto it being a bit early, nipple stimulation from harvesting colostrum can bring on contractions so always best to leave be until 37 weeks before trying. Also, for your reassurance, I didn't manage to express any colostrum pre-labour but breastfed my boy from birth and still going over 2 years later 🥰 trust your body ❤️

Thank you so much ladies! All of the comments are very helpful & reassuring 🤍
