But ofc please ask your midwife bc I’m making an educated guess that’s all !!
Yes, I need to have an IV with antibiotics during labour 😞. I think it's in the birth canal so C-section birth should be fine? I'm guessing!
Thanks everyone. I will give the midwife a call today. But I think you’re right, as I’m a planned c section it should all be ok and no antibiotics xx
I had group B strep and was told if I went through with my planned section I wouldn't need antibiotics as it only affects babies through the birth canal. But speak to the midwife to put your mind at ease. You can also mention it at your pre-op appointment to make sure it's on your notes. X
Hiya! I did and was just given an oral course of abx and they said they’d put me on it during birth. No biggy! Xx
I had strep b during pregnancy and was so worried about it. There is only a risk of baby getting strep b if it’s a vaginal birth when the water breaks as that’s when baby is no longer protected but baby will be fine if you’re having a c-section. I had an induction and my waters were broken so there was a risk but they had me on antibiotics. I did have an emergency c-section and they were worried about baby having an infection but thankfully she was okay
I was given antibiotics and chose an elective section after testing positive for strep B early on
I had it and they said that as soon as my waters broke or I felt I was in labour to call and go in straight away as I would be prioritised. I was as well to be fair. My waters broke and they told me to go straight in and I was put on an antibiotic drip x
I was seeing a gynaecologist before getting pregnant who diagnosed me with it and the midwife said they will do a swab at 30 weeks to see if I still have it and if so will be given an antibiotic drip in labour and may have to stay in 24 hrs to be monitored ☺️ I was worried at first but my mum and sister both had it they said so it is more common than u think.
I had strep B when I was pregnant and I only fount out I had it when I had a blood test done so I had to have antibiotics and I had to have it when I gave birth and my daughter did xxx
I had strep B with my first from a vaginal swab and they were going to give me antibiotics in labour but I laboured too quickly so they didn’t get a chance and just monitored my son for 24hrs after. With my second they just treated me as if I had it again and again I laboured too quickly so they had no opportunity to give me the antibiotics so they just monitored my son for 24hrs. Both were midwife led hospital births and I wanted a water birth with both but again I was too quick so no chance to even run the pool 😂🙈 I’ve just tested positive for strep B again but this time from a urine sample so they’re giving me antibiotics to treat it now but it means I now can’t have a home birth like I wanted and I’ll likely labour too quickly again for antibiotics when I’m giving birth so it’ll be another 24hrs in hospital after birth to be monitored 😅
@Artemis same with me. Wanted a water birth and planned to get antibiotics but gave birth to quickly so there wasn’t time. 😂Gave birth at 8:30 am was allowed to leave 12 hours later same day.
I had it. My midwife said it can only reach the baby after waters are broken. As the other ladies have said for a vaginal birth you’ll have IV antibiotics in labour but I had a c section (elective) so I got antibiotics anyway and they just monitor the baby for 24 hours in case they show signs. I think it’s more rare for issues after a c section for obvious reasons 🤍
Strep b can make baby poorly during vaginal birth as far as I know so with planned vaginal births they pre-treat with antibiotics. It’s usually harmless to mum so they may not choose to give antibiotics if you’re going for a planned section in order to minimise risk of side effects to baby.
