Pilates

Those who swear by reformer Pilates: can you tell me if it’s worth the hype? Have you been able to get stronger, build muscle mass? How big or long does the workout have to be to feel like you have done a big workout?

I have done it in the past once a week and also step once a week and I loved both. Pilates is not as easy as it looks, if you have time its definitely worth trying for yourself. I dont think you would get visible muscle mass though, but you would get more strenght. It depends on exercises you do, best to watch some youtube workouts, I'd say 30mins minimum but 50mins is really good.

10-20 min a day or 5 days a week can change a lot strength and tone. i built my arms in a little over a month. doesn’t feel overwhelming but definitely gives results

Classes where I used to go were usually 45 minutes. I honestly started walking taller and feeling stronger within two weeks! I did two classes per week. That stuff is seriously good. It was pretty expensive though. £42 per class. Max 6 people. Disclaimer! It may not give the same quick results for everyone though. ❤️

I’ve done it on and off for about 4 years. I continued through my pregnancy and after when it was safe to do so and still continue now. In terms of building muscle mass, I feel that it lengthens and tightens rather than building huge amounts of muscle. I am strong, but it builds strength in a very different way to typical work outs. After a 50 minute class, the next day I can certainly feel it. In my earlier days of Pilates, when I couldn’t feel a difference I learned later it’s because I wasn’t engaging my core throughout the exercises. Now it’s still just as hard as before because I’m challenging myself now xx
